It is quite ridiculous that a game that has historically only catered to the casual community has actually implemented a ranking system which rewards players for trying to win. Halo 4, like Halo Reach, does not promote team unity nor winning; instead Halo 4 promotes individual stats. I still play Halo 3 because ranking up is not only enjoyable, but also meaningful. When I play Halo 3, I know that when I win I can rank up, and when I lose I know I can rank down. The ranking systems in Halo 2 and Halo 3 provide the incentive of ranking up, thus the reason people play to win. 343 must reconsider their decision to not implement a ranking system. This ranking system does not have to be 1-50 like Halo 2 & 3, it could be similar to the ELO system of League of Legends or the skill-based ranking system of Starcraft 2. I know I am not the first person to highlight Halo 4’s need for a ranking system, however I believe it is important to point out that if a meaningful ranking system is not implemented, Halo 4 could very well lose to this year’s CoD, both with the competitive and causal communities.
