Cod and oddball

So, the new cod infinite warfare was recently confirmed to have a gamemode called “defender” that they called. “akin to halos oddball.” Why do we have a new cod game with oddball when the most recent halo dosn’t even have it? Come on 343 get it together and put in all these missing gamemodes.

edit: I’m also really pissed that cod is stealing from halo again, many people already have and will say that all video games steal things from each other, but they usually change it in some way to make it new, this “defender” mode is oddball, nothing new, no innovations, it’s oddball with a ball that looks diffrent.

Because 343i likes changing/removing stuff for the sake of being different from Bungie, apparently. Why else would we not have popular and highly requested stuff like Firefight, playable Elites, Invasion, the other half of Halo 5, etc.?

CoD is stealing from Halo again? When was thefirst time they did it?

Also, they said it’s akin to oddball, games can have modes similar to each other. Otherwise no game would be allowed to have slayer/team death match, CTF, or pretty much any mode.

Also, if you’re not ok with CoD apparently “stealing” oddball from Halo, then you shouldn’t be ok with Halo stealing very similar gameplay from CoD, otherwise you are a hypocrite.

Why? In what way does this effect you?

It’s more or less borrowing the idea but trying to improve upon them. It’s what CoD did with halo reaches jetpacks and evade but turned them into the Exo suit that let you thrust all over the place.

@op: ^^ there is no stealing as they’re not patterned or owned by anyone. It’d be a bland video game world if a company couldn’t make a game just cause someone else owns the original concept. Halo also isn’t the first game to even have oddball or CTF, or even slayer, so are they stealing from the original makers? I also approve of CoD doing it cuz at least they’re trying to add variety to their -Yoinking!- game! (343 logic you know).

Theatre, thruster evade, Camo, promethian vision, two hit melee, the mantis, and probably tons more. I don’t think anyone was ok with halo 4 stealing from cod, and even then half of bo3s specialists are halo 4 AAs which were at least new ideas. If you actually read the linked page it’s not just a similar mode, it’s identical to oddball except the ball is a little drone that you carry around, evreything in the mode functions the exact same.

Yeah, I’m just pointing out the OP’s hypocrisy. Many people seem to have an irrational hate for CoD when it does something they think belongs to Halo, but they’re perfectly fine when Halo has multiple things added to it from other games.

I, myself, am not a fan of Halos current gameplay style and I don’t much care for CoD, but at least I try to be rational about it, unlike most people on this forum. Like “stealing” oddball? If it was the exact same mode with the exact same name, t**hat would be stealing, or ripping off, as I don’t feel stealing is the right word for this.

And? Halo still has CoD-like gameplay. Why aren’t you complaining about that?

Again, games can have the same game modes. Otherwise Halo is a massive ripoff since most of its game modes (all the way from CE) are from other games before it. Where is your outcry for that? Or are you just irrationally hating CoD because you think it’s taking something from Halo?

Where is halo using cod gameplay outside of 4, does having sprint instantly make it cod, you are aware that ce came out well before the first cod?

Oddball is in Halo 5, it dropped along with the Griffball a few months back. it’s not currently in matchmaking but it is available for custom games

Halo 5 has many abilities from other games, clamber, sprint, aiming down sights, etc.

I know Halo came out before CoD, but Halo wasn’t the first fps ever. There were others before it with many of the game modes it has now. So if you have a problem with CoD having oddball, then you need to have a problem with Halo having most of its game modes as well.

Was about to comment this, its the same with Ricochet, they are in the game just not in MM. Not sure why but thats how it is.

As I said earlier, all games steal from each other, but they also add a little something to make it their own, this gamemode IS oddball, nothing diffrent about it except the name. And this thread wasn’t made to hate on cod, I made it because personally I find it kind of ridiculous that cod has halo gamemodes that halo dosn’t even have right now. Yes I know oddball is in customs but it’s not anywhere in matchmaking.

CoD did change it to fit them. As you said, it’s a drone, not a bomb. Take Slayer, for example. Literally every fps has it as their most basic game mode.

They may have different names for it, such as Team Deathmatch, but they’re all basically the same mode. You’re on one team and you kill the other team until someone reaches the score limit. Aside from CoD, which has kill streaks and such, not very many other games change up the formula. And that’s just one example.

In short, there’s nothing wrong with CoD having a mode similar to oddball. All games copy, even Halo.

And that’s great, but why is it not in Matchmaking? Oddball, King of the Hill, Dominion, Headhunters - just some of the many fan-favourite game modes not in Halo 5’s matchmaking.

COD developers are just utilising game modes they can see are popular but 343 can’t. One thing I do like about the Call of Duty devs is:

  1. They keep popular game modes (even if the mode wasn’t created by their studio like Kill Confirmed or Zombies)
  2. Even when a playlist or game mode isn’t pulling in thousands of people (Uplink or CTF), they still keep it going - just for the few hundred who enjoy it. That’s good community management right there.

An excellent example of my first point is Black Ops 3’s Fracture game mode. Fracture is basically the Headhunters mode from Halo Reach. Treyarch realised how popular a game mode like Headhunters was and recreated it. 343 didn’t.

Changing how the ball looks dosn’t change the mode, we can make the ball look like whatever we want but that still dosn’t change the mode in any essential way.

Then we’re back at square one.

Tell 343 to take Slayer out of Halo because it’s copied from games before it without any real changes to distinguish it. And CTF, BTB, King of the Hill, Race, Firefight, and many others.

It’s quite genius, isn’t it? While Halo is turning into CoD and failing because of it, CoD is slowly turning into Halo because nothing occupies that space anymore. CoD can once again become new and unique because Halo was busy trying to be like the cool kids.

Yeah, custom games that rarely anyone plays.

I just want to tell them make new I.P. than changing Halo, so they can be original without any blame from people.
