Hear me out.
I usually just lurk in the forums. I read people’s ideas and opinions trying to understand where they come from on certain topics. Lately something has been frustrating me though, and that is people that defend the changes that Halo 5 has made by saying, “Even starts, map control, and power weapon control are back so clearly this is a Halo game.” It is really annoying.
Realistically those mechanics could be added to any modern FPS and those games would clearly not be Halo, and that is why that argument is dumb. Halo is different because of it used to focus on precision over twitch and was relatively deep for how simple it was. Notice how I said used to, Halo 5 is not this. Halo has always been relatively slow when compared to other games. You couldn’t sprint and kill times were much longer. This slowness was counteracted by the combat, which required you to move to out play your opponent. These little bursts of excitement lasted much longer than in other games, and I think this is what makes Halo stand out the most. It was slow in the right ways, and fast/exciting in the right ways.
Let’s look at the Halo 5 beta. You move fast now, something that on its own isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but in order to make it so that people cannot run away they lowered the kill times overall, and that is where the problem lays. Halo has always had slow movement and long, exciting, battles, this gave it a unique character when compared to other games. Hell, even Reach and 4 had this. The Halo 5 beta has fast movement and fast, campy, combat. Instead of drawn out duals between two people, now it is basically a shoot first and win scenario. This causes the exciting parts to be not as exciting and to be more frustrating. This, for me at least, is why this game doesn’t “feel” like Halo.
They can easily change this though. All they have to do is scale the maps down a bit and make the weapons harder to use. Increase auto aim back to where it used to be, lower bullet magnetism, increase spread and/or bloom and/or recoil on all automatic weapons(in both smart scope and hip fire) and the BR’s burst. If they change those and then balance the rest of the sandbox accordingly it will make for a much better experience. They can still make the AR powerful if they want, just as long as it doesn’t feel cheap when you get killed with it. Right now Halo 5 is not in good shape but that could be easily changed by looking back at what made the series great, and changing accordingly.

TTK i still relatively the same on average as other halos and long then some Some argue magnetism is higher Other say its lower.
And When compared to Twitch shooter Halo is still far longer then most any other shooters out there.
Slight tweaks to hitboxes and Magnetism would fix these issues Mobility does not effect those one on one encounters that halo is known for. I dare and say Two people who play one on one would still be nearly the same as halo 2/3
Apparently everyone can come up with their own theory of what makes Halo, Halo. So what’s really the point? Just hope for a great game, and you’ll be satisfied. I think Halo 5 feels like Halo, for better and for worse, but even if it didn’t i wouldn’t care as long as its good. There are very, very few good online shooters out there.

there is no way a battle between two players in halo 2/3 is the same as Halo 5 cause i can tell you my shoot outs are much shorter in Halo 5. maybe you’re talking about if both players are standing right in front of each other and shoot there guns at there heads its exactly the same time. but in no way do i believe a one on one lasts the same amount of time between those games taking into account strafing and gandhi jumping , no way, i completely disagree.
Ok and how many people are putting the input in the right forums? Is that not what the support fourm are for? I feel this forum is more for just talking about halo 5 not giving input for change.
The base movement speed in Halo 5 is lower while the magnetism and RoF for most of the weapons is higher, the result is a lower TtK and less missed shots. Strafing is almost nonexistent and Ghandi-hopping is gone. Whether such changes alter the feeling of “Halo” is debatable.

Nothing can scratch my multi itch quite like good old Halo thought. So I guess it matters a little more to me. Halo 5 is so far off the mark. I don’t even feel compelled to play the beta. I don’t even kind of like it at this point.
Halo 5 is filled with players straffing, its more encouraged now more than ever with more powerful weapons. I even strafe while throwing grenades, its awesome with the thruster.

Subjective maybe. Not debatable. You change fundamental elements of game play you have a different. Halo 5 reminds me of CE-H4. That’s about as close as it’s ever gonna get.

And only with thruster. Auto aim and slow player movement kill the effect it used to have. Most still land near every shot.

but the bullet magnetism and the low base player movement makes it redundant to strafe, thrusting just causes a slight pause in action.
I don’t

Not only with thruster but normally too. Auto aim is super weak in this game. Its hard as hell to pull headshots in comparison to Halo 2 and 3.

Auto aim is low, magnetism is high (there’s a difference). The magnetism needs to be nerfed in Halo 5, but I do agree that strafing is still viable as ever. I do it to great effect, especially when I’m in the middle of a capture on Stronghold and need to avoid fire. Using all of the new abilities to my advantage can really make it difficult to hit me.
As for TTK, someone ran the numbers once I read somewhere on the site, and Halo 5’s TTK fits right into the series average, and is actually slower than Halo 2 by about 0.05 seconds, in perfect kills. Certainly slower than Halo CE, with Halo 3 having the slowest in the series.
