I will be demanding coatings be removed every single time the official halo channel on Twitter posts. We need to get this coating crap removed. There are plenty of games that offered advanced systems for color, material, and designs. With a multitude of ways to obtain them. Either from purchase, commendations or so forth. Two games of the top of my head are Warframe and Anthem.
This can be done if we all scream loud enough. Are you not tired of everyone kinda looking like you? Why not allow players the ability to really customize each part of the wheel. There has been so many people here that have devised ways to redo this. If we want this gone we have to work together guys.
Coatings are cool, some of the designs are really nice. I’m way happier with my Spartan in Infinite than any other Halo game. Although I did also really like my Spartan in Halo 5. All the other games I used default Spartan with red and white.
MCC was cool too. I loved the Mythic armour but they did take my helmet away from the flight so
I admit I am very disappointed that I don’t have my H5 colour scheme. Brown and Gold.
But I already have half a dozen coatings I really like. Four of them I’ve worn regularly into battle.
We are only one and bit seasons in and already I’ve seen, and taken interest, in more Spartan set ups than I have for both Halo 4 and 5. Halo 5 was incredibly boring. Everyone wore white or black - with red or green trimmings.
I agree that more control would be great. Awesome actually. And I have concerns how messy it’s going to get with current system when we’re trying to catalogue and sort our options. But give this three or four seasons and everyone is going to have heaps of control over the look of thier Spartan.
I see your point but at the same time would it just be nicer to have the CHOICE of a coating or the ability to style the coating however you like? Coatings will likely never go away but for the love of all things Great Journey, a blank slate that we could buy and customize would be a step in the right direction!
It’s a fair point that we aren’t far in, but start a new profile and tell me that this far in it’s fair? You get a hand ful and then everything is locked in previous our current passes or storefronts. Sure as time passes you’re likely to buy a pass or earn some coatings but player expression is extremely limited out the gate and for awhile afterwards.
It may feel better in the shorter seasons, it may not. If it’s something we tackle now along with our games core issues we can get this out of the way so… Ya know… We can get elites … and maybe more playable races.
This is infinite we should go nuts right? … Right? Lol
Well that’s another issue is if you keep up with the current seasons armor change everyone looks the same. Hopefully cross core will change this, but colors will still kinda be stagnant.
I’m all fine with the rudimentary system that was in place before being implemented again, but the coatings are fine they way they are for the intended purpose they represent. There simply needs to be more variation to them to offset the limited nature of the 2 color system.
Honestly - they should be selling coatings and colour combinations separately.
You earn / buy a coating (initially just different shades of grey), choose which spartan core to apply it to, and then throw a splashing (colour wheel) over it.
Once you’ve chosen the combination that’s done. You keep it of course, but if you want to another combination of coatings and colours you have to buy / earn more of them.
There is nothing wrong with the coatings themselves. It’s how they’ve been implemented that’s the problem. If we could colour them, or design our own, or use them on any core we wouldn’t be complaining so much.
Many stated when they were announced that there would be backlash. I liked a few that were revealed, but not the colour. If 343i didn’t make coatings and colours so restrictive I would be tempted to support the coatings.
Bottom line, people don’t buy what they don’t like.
Not sure if Coatings have to go if cross core is being implemented down the line but my two cents is that I just don’t feel like I’m able to express myself freely with the Coating system.
For example, what if I wanted Tiger Stripes but with Coral and Violet, because I’ve been using Coral and Violet since Reach. I can’t, and idk if my combination choice is popular enough that 343 will make a Coating of it.
I never understood why they decided to go for the inferior system of Coatings dictating colour channels as well instead of Coatings for armor textures/design and Colours of our choosing.
I am. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I don’t think coatings should be removed all together. I believe that we should be able to unlock them in more ways, have cross core, and most importantly, be able to select the coatings on any individual armor plate.
Everything that everyone here has said js Coatings are awesome IF WE CAN CUSTOMIZE OUR OWN OR HAVE THEM AS A SWCONDARY OVERLAY.
What I see here is people still discontent with this system, most are okay with coatings if we could tweak them, color them ourselves, and switch out patterns. This tells me everyone is still upset. And it needs to be altered
I AGREE! THE NEW SYSTEM GIVES MORE OPTIONS BUT LESS INTERFACE!
The lack of interface destroys the ability to be free.
Coatings can work, in great abundance with fewer limitations. The problem is, the ones they’re putting out are forced into events and storefronts, dramatically slowing down the rate at which players can unlock new ones.
This is to add value to them, of course. Something I disagree with but can understand from a business standpoint.
i have seen a few spartans that look like me, it is pretty annoying i will say, though i always will prefer freedom in colour customisation over preset colour combos, didnt mind them in Destiny but i hate them here, being FTP doesnt excuse this terrible itteration of that system either when games like Warframe exist.
