So im curious how would co op campaign work. Theres a rumor going around that the reason its being delayed is because 343 are having a hard time figuring out how it will work? Ive tried to think how would it play out. Would you be limited to how far you and the co op player could go in each direction? Would it be that your co op player be kept on an invisible leash or would spawn next to the main player like in halo ce? How would a semi open world work with co op players would it be like destiny? Im sure that main missions would be like every halo game prior but i would like to know how would you imagine co op gameplay will work and would it work well? I mean if you could only do main missions on co op with no co op semi open world that would suck! So if we put out our ideas on how it would work 343 would have a better understanding on what we want for co op and how it would work! This would be beneficial on both parts. 343 would know what to stay away from and we as halo fans would have infinite be the start of a great campaign. Lets us know how you think co op should be like, your thoughts and ideas?

I’ve come to the same conclusion as you.
In every other Halo game when you move too far from a player who is entering a new area, the game will teleport all players to them as the new area is being loaded and the other areas de-loaded.
I am thinking there have been challenges encountered given the open nature of Halo Infinite and how to manage this loading / de-loading situation.
I am not sure if it’s an accurate understanding, but in games like WoW the world is hosted server-side, which is how a number of players can occupy the same world but not have the world de-loaded. I am thinking since Halo co-op works with having all players occupy the relative same area, which is being hosted from the lead player, it is causing problems with having them all occupy such a large area. But I really have no idea.
This may be way off, but I recall the console version of Ark had it so that if you were playing co-op, other players could not move outside a certain radius of the host. Maybe the same problem here?
This game is not a linear game, like other Halo games it’s like destiny in scope and layout. At this rate, I don’t care if they have to copy Bungies, fast travel system on destiny to finish co-op. I want to play the single player campaign and enjoy the story. These so called Halo co-op fans want to delay this game, and ruin to fun for everyone else. Do not listen to them 343i, stay on target.

My thoughts on how the semi open world would work when its halo! What i mean is how would skulls, par time and par score work within the open world. I do like the idea of a semi open world and i would like it if there was linear campaign missions too. My thoughts would be that you go around claiming sections of the map and there is one big section that would tie into a campaign mission. This section once completed would then open the next part of the map. So with each mission the map would get bigger. I would like to be able to go back and play the missions for skulls, par time and score and be able to skip the open world. If skulls and par time/score would not be there because of it being open world it wouldn’t feel like halo to me. As far as the game being released i can easily see Microsoft pushing this title for this year and with the long time its taken for the so called restock of the xbox series X i doubt they will delay the game

I would assume as far as “par” time goes for speed running will be based on two factors…Overall time it takes for you to complete the game 100% and everytime you start a mission when navigating the open world.
That being said, I believe the delay has to do with the scripting for the open world. There are only a few times in Halo’s history where we had missions that were considered open world. Such as Mission 4 of Halo: CE. The rest of the campaign missions in all Halos have been pretty straight forward in regards to there is really only 1 path to travel to complete the mission and game. I am assuming the open world concept of Halo will eliminate loading screens and choosing the next mission to go on because you can travel to any mission you want to go on. So it will be interesting to see how Co-Op pans out in this regards.

Look I like the co-op and solo play but it seems to me like the holiday 2021 deadline is too restrictive for those of us awaiting features like co-op and especially Forge.
I dont want more delays but I could have been fine with another delay if it meant forge/co-op on launch, honestly. I’ll live that its on launch but it sucks a little, y’know? Halo is a social experience and some of us dont wanna play MP all the time y’know?
Forge is my jam, and it suuuuuucks that its gonna be 6 months post launch. I already have ideas for maps. And I am DYING to test the menus and deliver my thoughts on it.

How is a delay ruining fun? You want a campaign full of bugs? How do we know the single player is even going to be polished at launch? How about you stop being a Dog with do do stuck in his butt and consider a life of happiness where you don’t feel like do do and have to take it out on people online who want to play the game just as bad as you do, but want to play it Co Op with their dying father cuz that dying father is who got them into halo 20 years ago and this is the last time he will ever be able to experience campaign for the first time playing Halo Co op with him cuz he is dying. How about you start being happy in life and reconsider your actions up until this point in your life.

I am sorry, but you can say the same about all the other kids and people dying right now, who want to play this campaign, Cause they all might not be here after Christmas, and in this way everyone can play the game. Either solo or split screen before their time is up. That is the bigger picture here, and that is the reality.

I really do like the idea of no loading screens. Im hoping that the campaign story wont be too linear and we could have different ways to play through the campaign. Id like to have new experiences when re-playing the campaign and maybe different endings but that would mean alot of work and i doubt it sadly 343 had any time for anything like this. What about the open world? I hope it will feel alive and not just one big map and once you’ve cleared an area and thats it. You will have no need to go back there. For years now ive had this idea from an old game i played a long time ago. It had an intresting mechanic to it that tied in with the map. Ever since ive always thought of why not have this feature in a game like halo infinite or destiny, border lands, far cry etc… it would keep the world active and it wouldnt be too repetitive like in fallout 4 with settlements being attacked. If you go to youtube and look for Asterix: The gallic war Ps1 complete longplay [HD] sorry i cant put in the link. This video goes on for like 2 hours so please no need to watch the full thing, just a couple of minutes to see how it works. Now that your back from seeing that old game. I would like this mechanic being applied to an open world game. For halo infinite unlikely not going to happen but its good to talk about my idea. If this was in halo infinite the map would be its own little game in itself. It wouldnt be repetitive i think like fallout 4. So for example lets say you as chief rally your troops for certain parts of the map you controlled or took over, if one area was being attcked by the banished you would have 3 options. 1- go there as chief and defend your section from the attack. 2- send in troops and let the games A.I. defend it for you so that you can stay where you are and continue on what you are doing. Finally 3- let it play out, your section could defend from the attack ok or in worse case you loose that section and would then have to send in troops later or go there on foot and take it back. This is such a small little mechanic that for me would make the world seem alive rather than have it feel empty when you clear out every section and defeat every enemy. Hopefully you get an understanding of this idea ive had for so long now. Think it would be better than random events or mini bosses in certain areas. Big parts of the map.could unlock a linear mission that would work as part of the campaign while still being part of the map. Lets us know what you think and ill try to answer any questions you have on my little idea
Looking at the 2020 demo as an example, the targets in a given objective (hit 3 AA towers), can be quite spaced out. 343 obviously wouldn’t show us their Magnum Opus in a preview, so we can expect some bigger missions with much further spaced targets to journey to.
Here’s where I’ll talk about stuff I know nothing about.
So I assume the game will either use some kind of perimeter system, that loads and unloads sandbox items as you move across the map, or the game will load in each segment/floaty island as you move from one to the other, similar to ODST.
If the game has objectives in the same mission that are further than the perimeter distance, or on another segment, that could present an issue with keeping games in sync.
To me at least, it seems unrealistic to expect that the entire map is fully loaded at all times, ready for player interaction. Maybe with the need to support last-gen and lower PC specs, this approach isn’t possible (but I’m not in here to discuss that, so let’s not go there), so they would need to use an ODST approach, or a perimeter system.
So maybe the issue they are having, is with getting player’s games back in sync? I’m thinking of things like; enemies appearing in different places, music and audio cues not lining up, and all sorts of bizarre physics shenanigans.
I know that games like Destiny and GTA have been doing this for a while, but this is 343’s first foray into an open world style game. It’s kind of a given they would run into unexpected issues they are unfamiliar with. Obviously they will have hired new Devs who have experience in the area, but it’s not like they can replace half the staff.
Like I say, I don’t know anything about game development. But if I had to pick an issue that they might be having with co-op, that would be my guess.
