Co-op campaign drop pod respawn (ODST/H2 style)

Should people respawn by drop pod in co-op campaign. Like the beginning of ODST campaign

How would that work in a indoors area?

Respawns should be consistent throughout the game. Also with the UNSC fleet being destroyed by The Banished where are these drop pods coming from?

I’m with TheDonCJG, it sounds like a very cool idea but it doesn’t make sense for this game. Someday I would love to see a gritty early war game with ODSTs or Spartans in MkIV (no shields) and this would be an awesome idea for that!

while a cool concept, it doesnt make much sense. As others stated, it wouldnt work for indoors and from a story perspective, what would be dropping them down? So far, everything points to the infinity being absent for a vast majority of the story

I could see it later in the game once you take back forts and rebuild your fleet. But as far as we know itll probably be a respawn outside the building you are in, who knows.

It wouldn’t really have to make sense story wise. There is only one chief. Only in co-op campaign would you spawn like this and only the co-op player. In my opinion, this would be an epic/entertaining way to respawn

The pilot could possibly drop pods

??? Their point clearly went COMPLETELY over your head…

What does there “only being 1 chief” have to do with there literally being nothing in orbit for him to drop from?..

Everything that is a part of the campaign has to make sense story-wise… it’s literally part of the story.

Also, having chief fall from the sky (with no ships to drop him from above) would literally make zero logical sense. Sounds just awful. This is something that should be able to be used in CUSTOM games but that’s it.

Rigggggghhhhhhttttttttt… the pilot of a pelican is 100% going to able to use drop-pods from his pelican… oh wait… that makes no sense considering a pelican is not even remotely close to as big as a friget.

Never once in Halo lore have manned drop pods come from a pelican… you need a friget at least to even make it remotely make sense

We can’t just go around adding things to Halo that people think are “cool”

Edit for Efarrell54:

Here’s my non inflamatory, babied, walking on egg shells response so the mods don’t get upset:

1.) Just because a pelican can carry a tank from it’s underside does not mean that it has the machinery or technology available to launch drop pods… there’s a reason that every single drop pod in Halo history has been dropped from frigets or larger ships/structures from orbit. You do realize there’s a difference between launching drop pods and having something being hooked onto the underside of the pelican like a vehicle is? It’s like calling a tow truck an aircraft carrier. One simply cannot do the same things as the other.

2.) “Also games are supposed to be…fun…you know?”
I’m pretty sure having drop pods that fall from imaginary frigets in orbit would not be the thing that makes Halo fun or not fun. This part is what disgusts me most about a percentage of the current gaming community. You guys think that your idea of fun is the best idea of fun. For example: “omg why do these people play so sweaty in multiplayer, why do they care about their KDA and sliding around strafing so much, just play for fun!!” As if “sweaty” aka skilled people aren’t having fun just because they play differently or better in multiplayer lmao. More people have fun with lore-accurate features than the people who have fun with non lore-accurate features. However, you are more than welcome to play non lore-accurate game modes and things like that in custom games! That’s the beauty of it and that’s where stuff like that belongs.

3.) “Only single player needs lore accuracy in my opinion.”
At least you ackowledge two different times in your post that this is just your opinion. However, one thing that a good amount of people do not understand nowadays is that, sure, you are entitled to your opinion, but you are not entitled to your opinion being correct or going unchallenged.

I think it is a great idea, though it would be great to make sure it fits into the lore.

Let’s be honest, this happens all the time. 343 or the fans try to shoe horn in all kinds of “cool” things.

That sounds like it’d be cool like the first time or so and get annoying very quick.

Itd be cool but only would work if a UNSC Infinity is in orbit. Im assuming the ship is destroyed but its be cool for a battle royale or firefight.

Make it full-on helldivers by selecting a drop point for your friend, potentially tanking out enemies and vehicles (and friendlies). As for “logic” a drop pod crashing underground is hardly worse than its passenger being another master chief.

A more appropriate method is probably to keep everything simple and respawn the player from thin air. If you wish to be fancy, one option could be to introduce an animation in order to make it feel like that the player is teleporting into the battlefield.

In addition to that, I don’t think UNSC has invented drop pods that can travel through solid objects which in turn restrict there usages in indoor environments.

A pelican can carry a tank. Why not a drop pod. Also, in my opinion co-op player respawns do not need to be lore accurate. Also games are supposed to be…fun…you know?. Don’t limit and nit pick things that make co-op more fun. Only single player needs lore accuracy in my opinion.

I miss the Halo 5 warzone intro. It is way better than that goofy Infinite one.

Yeah I would like to see drop pods utilized somehow in certain game modes. Halo 5 had a neat idea of having some Warzone matches begin with a cutscene of drop pods entering the map and that is where you begin the match from. It would have been cool if a drop pod was a requisition that would be used to select a specific spawn point on the map.
