Co-op/Are own spartan

Now I know everyone is master chief so they could all feel like their progrssing threw the story as the chief but i feel like this is kinda a missed opportunity to play your own spartan with chief helping your friend threw the story.

Like itd be awesome to see my own spartan in the background of a cutscenes as you help a friend get threw it plus itd help feel like not every spartan on the infinite just died afterwards cause it feels little empty of other spartans besides logs of hearing them and dead ones.

They could have even done like a SOS matchmaking system like someone needs help with something they could call for help at a outpost and a pelican could come drop off a player spartan to help even if it was just one mission and they go away after would be sick.

I wonder if this game mode will shape up to be similar to Call of Duty’s Modern Warfare (2019)'s Special Operations Co-operative mode…

I like the idea of personalization in Halo: Infinite Co-op. I want to be flashy with me lads! Great idea, Voidless.

It would be pretty neat if they could have Fred, Kelly, and Linda be players 2, 3, and 4 as a non-canon placeholder for the co-op Spartans.

Considering that all three of them have armor setups on the Mark VI Gen-3 platform, it shoudl be easy to just repaint the Master Chief armor and make the nessessary cosmetic alterations.

Also, Fun-Fact for everyone out there.
The design of MJOLNIR Mark VI Gen-3 is actually based off of the Spartan Designs from Halo Legends: The Package; with Fred and Kelly’s current designs being a near 1-to-1 recreation of the armor they wore in the animation.

I can almost guarantee you that this is the PR reason. The actual reason is likely that they couldn’t get the two systems to merge properly, or that they don’t want their precious canon timeline that now incorporates multiplayer to get disrupted. Or that they simply do not care.

343 loses absolutely nothing by lying through their teeth when it comes to stuff like this.

Blue Team fill ins would suck.

Because well, you’d either wish they were actually in the game instead of shallow stand ins or you’d wish you could just be your own Spartan following Chief so you make up your own story.

They just need to make it a future update to add MP Spartans as players 2-4.

Eh. I can kinda agree.

Perhaps we could have two skulls added to the game.

Blue Team Skull will fill in players 2-4 as Blue Team Members.

Dusten Echoes Skull will allow players 2-4 to be their own multiplayer Spartan.

I just know getting to play as my own guy would certainly up replay value when I’m playing with friends or newcomers.

Not to mention Samurai Chief or Dieselpunk Chief is also a bonus. I wonder what the next Fractures will be?

Honestly, I have no idea why we can’t just have Chief wearing whatever custom armor in Co-op campaign. Could still be his voice and animations, and the ingame cutscenes are Real-Time rendered, so there is 0 problems at all.

Afterall, Co-op isn’t a canon experience anyway, I would like to see the option in the future.

Honestly, its not really an issue for me. I play campaign fairly sparcely. I’ll play it alot at the time of release, building up from Heroic to Legendary and even LASO. Afterwards though, I rarely even touch campaign to the point that I would need my custom Spartan in it. I think Halo Reach was the only game that allowed your personalized character to be on display.

That is why I said non-canonically.

If you are playing co-op anyway, canon is being a bit stirred up anyway in a meta fashion.

Take a look at Halo CE and look at Spartan Dustin Echoes (Bungie actually refers to the co-op Spartan of Halo CE and Halo 2 as Dustin Echoes because of Cortana’s line at the end of the game. “Scanning . . . nothing. Just Dust & Echoes. We’re all that’s left.” They stated this in the Halo CE Developer Commentary. Skip to the timestamp of 50:40 in the vid linked below.)

Halo 3 and Halo 5 were the only campaigns where playing Co-op actually gave you separate characters to take on the roles of.

Which is kinda a missed opportunity for ODST. Like in some missions you have two or more ODSTs from the start of the mission, so it would make sense to have Player 1 be the ODST you play as in single player, while Player 2 gets to be the ODST who is your buddy.
Alpha Site could have P1 be Dutch and P2 be Mickey
NMPD HQ could have P1 be Romeo and P2 be Buck
Kikowani Station could have P1 be Buck and P2 be Mickey, then when Mikey is piloting the Phantom, P2 becomes Dutch.
Coastal Highway could have P1 be Rookie and P2 be Buck.

I’d want multiplayer spartans too, it would mean that Player One can be the “FrIGGen MAsTeR cHief” and be given to the little brother (or sibling) who wants to be first player. Meanwhile, I’d get to take my own Spartan who can now have the lore of fighting alongside Chief.
I’d propose to add replayable missions back as “training sims”. Basically, you play the entire mission as your spartan with your AI. Then, throw campaign co op into there too.

I absolutely love this idea! How cool would that be to see my very own Spartan in the background!

I’d love to have my Mark V (B) running around. I really like how my Reach spartan looked and I’d really love to have the Reach armor i have in that game in Infinite. The details are so much better in Infinite. Just wish 343 would unlock the rest of the Reach sets so I can have my old school spartan running around with the Legend himself. It would just add to my own little lore. Like “I’m the one who brought you Cortona and got you off Reach in the Pillar of Autumn”. I think we should all have our own little immersion. Have our own made up back stories to how we got to Zeta Halo. Our MP spartans could be our own stories we could share here. Go D&D style for the campaign

Exactly. This type of stuff is what I love. I much prefer to play “as myself” in any given circumstance, and as a kid Reach was amazing to experience seeing “me” dink around in the background while Carter tries to handle things. I miss that level of love. Does it objectively make the game better? No.
But is it an awesome touch that brings back some old joy of the old days? Absolutely.

The books aren’t canon, so it’d be weird to have them in the game.

The books are 100% canon (ignoring retcons), what are you talking about?

Where did you get this notion?

343 literally requires their books to be read in order to understand what is going on in the Halo Franchise.
Which is quite obnoxious.
Bungie’s books were just extra-lore snippets so you had optional stories to expand the universe.
Meanwhile the majority of 343’s books are required to understand the narrative of their games.

This is because Bungie’s games take place within less than a year’s timeframe.
Halo Reach starts on July 24th, 2552 and Halo 3 ends on March 3rd, 2553
5 games pretty much back-to-back.

Meanwhile Halo 4 takes place in 2556, Halo 5 in 2558, and Halo Infinite in 2560.
TWO YEAR GAP BETWEEN EACH GAME.
So the books now fill in those gaps and most of these novels and comics are now required in order to understand what is going on.
Who is Vale? Read Halo: Hunters in the Dark.
Who is Tanaka? Read all 24 issues of Halo: Escalation to find out.
Who are Fred, Kelly, and Linda? Read Halo: The Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx, Glasslands, Last Light, and Halo Escalation to find out who they are and what they mean to John.

The transmedia (yes that is the actual term as the media is not on one singular platform) is all over the place.

Imagine jumping from Episode 7 to Episode 8 of a TV series and all of a sudden NOTHING makes any sense as to what is going on in the TV series?
Then you find out that to learn what happened between these two episodes that released weekly, that you have to read 3 novels, a comic book series, watch two side-movies, watch a bonus episode, and listen to a six-hour long podcast series so you can understand Episode 8?

That is what Halo 5 required you to do in order to understand the jump in story from Halo 4.

Meanwhile out of Bungie’s books, the only one that could be argued as necessary was Halo: First Strike as it details how Chief, Cortana, and Johnson got back to Earth.
But even without reading the book, you don’t even need it to understand the story of Halo 2 since it is able to stand on its own without other media to act as a foundation.

I agree, I really feel this would add a lot to the co-op experience with my friends. I’m not sure if there are any reasons due to specific animations/geometry you’ve used with Chief though during the story. I’d honestly be fine with the cutscenes staying chief and just being able to play with our multiplayer characters. But changing out those player models on the fly for those intro cutscenes would be insane.
