Let’s throw around some theories about the Halo 4 Beta. The answers to the below questions are my own opinion, and are not proven fact.
Will there be a Halo 4 Beta? Yes, in the tradition of Halo 3 and Halo Reach, it would a massive let down for the community if 343 only conducted internal beta testing. 343 will be compared to Bungie in the press. 343 beta tested Reach’s TU, and they love community feedback.
Will we have to buy a game to activate the beta? Like Halo 3 and Crackdown? Or Reach and ODST? Maybe, but I personally don’t think so. If you need to buy a game to play the beta it will be a Microsoft Game Studios title. Below is a list of Microsoft titles for the 360 releasing this year.

If the beta is not available with an Xbox 360 game, will it be on the dashboard for everyone? I don’t think so; I think it will be something we will access in Halo Waypoint, on the console. 343 is trying to centralize all things Halo with Waypoint. This will expose people who want to play the beta to Waypoint, since they will have to download it to their console to participate in the beta.
When will the beta be available? I believe sometime within the first two weeks of February we will have another trailer and beta info. If the beta is accessible from Waypoint on the console, I suspect it will be in July/Aug. This lines up with the first group release of toys from McFarlane, and Microsoft Game Studios seems to have a gap in releases during the dog days of summer.

But I think 343 Ind. will lead something like Ubisoft with Assassin’s Creed…
They show up a new Ac game every year,and I think 343 will do the same with this Triology.
This year they will show us HALO 4, 2013 will lead HALO 5, and 2014, HALO 6!
WHAT?! Give me the source of these confirmations! Neither Undead Labs and Redlynx have confirmed a release date. I’m following them both and both haven’t said when their game will release.

I think a Halo 4 beta is something that has to be done, other wise they wouldnt get to test all the new things they implimented. I think it would be more appreciated if it was on Waypoint like you said, and not on a new game that we have to buy.

I really hope they dont release them annually, they need to continue the quality over quantity trend.

No, 343 Industries already confirmed that they were following a 3 year development cycle for the Halo games in the new trilogy. Expect Halo 5 in 2015 and Halo 6 in 2018.
