Cloaking Useless?

It seems to me that cloaking is completely and utterly useless… way too many units have detect for it to even matter, like I think either detect should be nerfed or cloaking should be buffed but right now I feel like nobody uses cloak and they probably have a good reason not to.

Cloaked grunts are great in the early game. It forces your opp to build and push detect units

Yeah cloaked grunts are. Ow a game changer for rushes but I was still able to counter them with snipers which made snipers more viable and doesn’t make the grunts op

Cloaking is very useful if you know how to properly use it. A lot of attacks from the most powerful units can be completely shut down with proper cloaking.

Also if you don’t build many detector units, the opponent can just snipe the few detector units and now the cloak essentially becomes invincibility.

The cloak support units like shrouds also deflect projectiles which makes it more worthwhile to have.

Cloaked grunts are op

Cloaking is useful early game and still useful late game because you can use it to heal your units if you have that ability as arbiter (can’t remember the name)

Cloaking is definitely not useless I lasted in a match after my partner got murdered early on thanks to cloaking alone. The enemy built on all but 2 bases and I still won.

You’d hate the Brother of Nod, then. Their whole deal was stealth. Stealth bombers, stealth tanks, stealth people, stealthed nuclear bombs, really anything that can have a stealth generator, does. I loved them, cause I’d stealth my whole base, and GDI has like two detectors, and one of them is T1 tech. Thing is, half the Scrin unit selection had detection, so Nod became basically a useless faction if the Scrin were in the match.

Stealth in Command and Conquer 3 is very different than in Halo Wars 2.

In CnC 3 you are 100% invisible. You can take out buildings and the enemy would have no clue of where you are coming from. But attacking reveals your position. There won’t such thing as a full pop cloaked army attacking you in that game.
Cloaking in HW2 is more a protection device. You are not 100% invisible but the enemy can’t target you with units and attacking doesn’t deactivate cloak so it acts like a shield. The “HP buff” is real. It’s not useless at all. It is actually quite powerful.

I agree that cloaking is basically useless. You won’t ever see any plays centered around cloaking at higher level of play simply because so many units can detect.

Its really a bummer because the mechanic just isn’t what it could be.

Cloaking is still great despite how many detectors are in the game because the detection range is trash compared to other RTS games like Starcraft. You basically have to be sitting on top of them to reveal.

Exactly this. If you have say a force of wraiths up front, and have locusts in stealth behind them, the cloak detect units won’t be able to reveal them. Stealth is fine as is.

Exactly! and getting snipers slows down a push to T2.
It’s a much needed change-up in the game.

As for other cloaked units, I guess I understand. I almost never see snipers cloaked. But, cloaked bases are definitely worth it, even if they just buy you a few extra seconds.

I just think this game isn’t centered around cloaking really.

It’s just a mechanic that annoys the opponent rather than give you a clear advantage.

This is the first time I see someone asking for a detect nerf, there’s many threads asking the opposite. I agree with none. I think detection is completely fine.

And at the same time I think cloaking is also fine. The only instance in which cloaking is difficult to deal with is the cloaking generator on a base.

With today’s patch upgraded rabbits will detect and demolish cloak grunts, and you won’t be delayed on t2 as much.

Gotcha. If anything, it’ll mean that you have to consider doing the upgrade when against SM and Arbies. I think it’s only a 200p upgrade though? So, yeah, not too big a setback, but still. Probably good overall.
