Climbing and Sliding Mechanics?

Just putting a thought out there. Would you guys like the ability to grab ledges and slide in Halo 4? I myself wouldn’t mind. It would make for faster paced gameplay, and get rid of those annoying moments where you just miss that jump. I wouldn’t want the game to be focused around these gimmicks, but I believe they would help the flow of the gameplay.

Does anyone share my sentiments, or would these mechanics be “not Halo”?

Climbing or vaulting might be nice. Sliding would get old fast. Any sudden movements at the push of a button add too much possibility of frustration. Think if what evade does.

Hmmm… I can see now how sliding might be frustrating. It’s like sprint, except you’re crouching and shooting at the same time. A little OP it seems. I’m still all for vaulting though.

I think some minor climbing and vaulting elements would be nice. If you’re sprinting and hit low cover, you could vault over it if you hit A at the right time. Also, I’ve discussed ledge grabbing before. I think it should work in a similar way to Crysis 2. If you hit A at a ledge, your camera should go downward quickly, and your Spartan should swat at the ledge with one hand (How do they put away their weapons so quickly in Crysis that they can use 2 hands?).

Here’s a video link to show people who haven’t played the game what I’m talking about. Click me!

i dont know. maybe new AA’s for a slide, and for climbing.

does it make sense to not have spartans who are able to climb and slide? from a reality standpoint, it really doesnt. from a GAMPLAY standpoing (the only standpoint that actually matters), it makes perfect sense.

really? for me evade adds the most skill gap of anything in the entire game, hands down. im incredible without evade, but give me evade and OH MY GOODNESS. i have soooo much fun using it because it unlocks levels of potential that simply arent there in default reach, or reach without evade. evade is something that turns on my adrenaline. without evade the game seems dull, and stagnant for me.

is it frustrating for other players? quite possibly. then again, they have the same access to it than i do, and its only ‘overpowered’ because i learned how to use it. any new player can use armor lock when he needs to, and have his teammates save his life. with evade, however, you actually have to be GOOD for it to be overpowered.

one thing that i would really like is a bit more explosiveness in ‘slide jumping’. so… in halo reach if you slide jump and you gain an extra 5 feet distance, in halo 4 i’d like to see this be something more like 7 feet. this is obviously a very rough example, but you get the idea.

Something like Brink-style parkour would be cool to see, but it could backfire and make Halo 4 seem derivative or like a ripoff of other games. It’d depend on whether 343 a) likes the idea and b) can add a massive and original twist to it.

Crysis 2, lol.

halo:mirrors edge, thatd be sick lol
