cliffhanger?

Who here thinx that Halo 4might end on a cliffhanger?

It better not. Each game should end properly.

Yeah it will, then Microsoft can squeeze out more money from us from Halo 5, classic Microsoft.

I hope there will be the customary legendary ending however. I’m sur there will be one though, 343i still needs to sell 2 more Halo games.

They said it’s the start of a new trilogy, so it will end on a cliffhanger of sorts. The first part of a three part story is usually about character introduction and will have some sort of eminent threat to be dealt with… See SW Episode IV for a good example of this. I think though, since some characters are already established (namely Chief and Cortana) they might go for an Empire Strikes back style cliffhanger (going with my SW analogy) and have some closure while leaving some things on the table for the next installment.

well, they announced at E3 that Halo 4 is going to start a new trilogy, so yes. it will end on a cliffhanger :stuck_out_tongue:

i just really hope that there are going to be legendary endings!

I certainly don’t hope so but I’m somewhat afraid H4 will end on a cliffhanger. Cliffhangers are acceptable for a daily or weekly TV series, but not if you’ll have to wait a couple of years for the continuation.

It better not pull a Halo 2.

H:CE was the first game in the trilogy, but it didn’t have a cliffhanger. At least not a big one. You knew the story is going to be continued, but it was a self-contained chapter, so to speak.

The end of Halo 2 is the worst possible cliffhanger. You’re still right in the middle of the action and the story, and suddenly it ends. Something like that doesn’t make me more eager to play the next part, it makes me frustrated and regretting that I played that game.

We already know it is a trilogy.

Anyways it will probably end on a cliffhanger, but not like Halo 2’s.

They didn’t think they were going to make a sequel to Halo. And then they wanted Halo 2 to end the story but were rushed.

I would like to see a repeat:

4 (ce)- opens a new world and ends with the feeling of wow i cant wait for the next

5 (2)- big cliff hanger

6 (3)- finish the fight.

Cliffhangars aren’t all bad. Halo 2 may have left the player in shock, but it doesn’t mean it shouldn’t happen again.

Ideally, each game will be a self-contained chapter in the overall story. Some plot threads could be left dangling, but every game should have its own arc that comes to its conclusion at the end of the game, while adding to the overall plot arc. See Mass Effect, Star Wars.

Yes, it means exactly that. Such huge cliffhangers are just frigging annoying. I know and respect that other people don’t care, but I just hate them. It spoils the whole campaign for me when it suddenly ends basically right in the middle of all the action and the story and I have to wait a couple of years for the next part.

I disagree. That’s usually just a cheap way to make it so you don’t have to plan the trilogy out properly.

I much prefer triologies in the style of Lord of the Rings.
