Clean Slate

Here we are guys. Were at Halo Infinite. The next and maybe even final chapter in Halo is upon us. 343, I direct this towards you. You have a clean slate guys, and seeing your past works, the community believes youll blow this one out of the water. I just have a few suggestions for you to potentially add to the game. I’d post in the discussion thread but it’d get buried under the “pls no req lol” posts.

No REQs
“Wait, Bacon, youre kind of being a hypocrite here!”. I get it, but hear me out. I dont want to completely eliminate the REQ system, because it does offer a ‘free’ way to get warzone cards. I simply want them to not carry armor, but to carry armor variants and WZ cards. You’d be able to get the base variant of all armors through commendations or leveling, but variants would be acquired through REQs. Not perfect, but just a suggestion.

Leveling
Leveling has to be one of the most inconsistent things ive seen in halo games to date. Halo 4 had a sort of “prestige” element with specializations, Halo Reach had a Credit leveling mechanic where XP was used to buy armor and whatnot, and Halo 5 had a massive 152 level cap but was stupidly difficult to achieve. I feel like something akin to Halo 3’s leveling system would be the most pragmatic choice here. It was consistent and didnt cheat you out of EXP. You earned 1 per won game and that made you progress greatly.

Soundtrack
This is a bit of a weird one. I enjoy Halo’s soundtrack greatly, but it gets kind of bland and sometimes even grating listening to some loud drum beat, or some band of trumpets or bongos. I recommend liscencing music. Think about it! I mean, who wouldnt want to see Chief and the rest of Blue Team sprinting down the side of a Guardian, slaying Prometheans left and right to the sound of Welcome to The Jungle.

Gamemodes n’ Playlists
Do not, for the love of God make rotating playlists a thing. I dont like being that vehement about it, but I have good reason. Nobody wants to have to wait for a certain gamemode to rotate into Social. I want to be able to look for a game of Grif, Halo 3 Throwback, H2BR Slayer, and Castle wars without having to wait weeks at a time. I’d add something similar to what the MCC has but not with a terrible UI.

Psych Profile
This was probably one of the most practical mechanics in Reach. I can not tell you how many times ive seen Competetive jerks matched up with casuals, and have the game devolve into a shouting match. I think it would be great if we could decide whether or not to be queued up with people of different chattiness or effort levels. This would be a wonderful addition to Social for those players who go all out, even in games that dont matter.

Customization
Ive already gone over variants, but I think we should go back to the way Halo 4 did things with customization. The reason I say 4 and not Reach is for good reason. to me, Halo Reach was way too convoluted. Variants of Variants was way too confusing. Halo 4 allowed you to customize everything about your Spartan without having too much.

Movement
[Insert obligatory “pls no add spartan charge or groundpound or sprint because not halo fat lol”] I know its old and I sound like an echo chamber, but its a hot topic for good reason. Its too much like Call of Doodie, a game that’s extremely repetetive and flawed. We want classic movement that adds a true element of realness. Jetpacks 'r bad.

Warzone
Im making this its own topic because there’s simply too much I need to say to put it in the playlist category. Warzone Assault is where my ire is drawn, mainly because its such an easy way for farmers to get XP, Piss of players, and generally just ruin the game for everybody. All I ask is that you make sniper balconies not within direct sight of enemy spawn, or something that discourages or punishes farming. My only problem with Firefight is that there isnt much versatility where vehicles are in question (Escape from ARC is an amazing example of this). People WOULD bring up the topic of the ridiculous spawn timer and mile away spawns. But that can be solved with one little trick: Dont die.

Teamkilling
Im not too dissatisfied with how it is currently, except for gamemodes like Grifball where an accidental TK is almost certain. I think removing Friendly fire altogether except for things like Ranked would be a godsend.

ADS
Only add it for precision weapons. No further questions

More Prometheans
As the covenant is slowly being phased out and the Prometheans are becoming the main ‘enemy faction’ that we’re pitted against. Therefore, we need more in terms of the Promethean arsenal, because as it is now, it is substantially lacking in terms of options. We need more vehicles and weapon counterparts to fill in what the Covenant has left behind. Besides, didnt the Covenant reverse engineer all of their tech from what the forerunners left behind? More on the topic; we need better knights. The Knights were abysmal compared to Halo 4. In 4, they had a balance of tankiness in addition to mobility. I mean, for God’s sake, they could teleport. If that isnt scary as balls then I dont know what is. In Halo 5, they were just watered down Robo-Hunters. Sure they were easier to kill, but then why make them tankier in the first place if their weak spots are so open? I dont know, Im just rambling and hyoer-focused at this point. Lets move on.

The Covenant
Ah, just what I wanted to discuss! Phase them out. I get it, theyre a staple of Halo’s career, but at this point, they serve no canonical purpose. Jul 'Mdama is dead, and the Covenant Capital of Suniaon was destroyed. That doesnt mean their weaponry should be removed, but having them as an enemy at this point is just beating a dead horse.

AI
Okay, After this, i’ll stop talking your ear off. All I want you to do is make the AI more intelligent than a 4 year old hopped up on weed. Its frustrating to have to direct them to weapons, or have them not revive you when theyre right next to you. If you want to introduce a team mechanic, actually have them fight as a them instead of having you do all the work.

Okay, Im done, and that absolutely pained me to type all of that within 30 minutes. Im open to discussion if you want it. Remember, these are simply suggestions and criticisms, not demands and Ad-Hominem attacks

I don’t want them to start licensing music. I’ve always appreciated that Halo music was completely original. Even the rock bands who contributed to Halo 2 made songs that were directly inspired by Halo; it’s not like they just took existing songs from those bands and stuck them in the game.

I would not want to be slaying Prometheans left and right while “Welcome to the Jungle” is playing in the background.

I’m all about having customization options, but I would say that Halo: Guardians actually had too many armor sets. Having over 100 sets of armor, with 2/3 of those being variants, seems like overkill to me - especially when most of those armors are downright hideous to begin with. That’s honestly what made the REQ system so frustrating to me. You spend hours earning REQ points, then you purchase a gold pack and you end up with an uglier variant of an already ugly helmet that you already owned. It took me forever to finally start getting armor pieces that I actually wanted.

In terms of the armor sets themselves, I’d rather they go with quality over quantity. If that means only 20 sets of good-looking armor instead of 100 sets of mediocrity, so be it. That way, if they’re going to stick with the REQ system, you actually have a better shot at getting the armor you want.

As far as colors go, that’s where I’d like to see them open things up a bit more. Give us darker shades of the base colors, give us unique color shades (like the shade of blue for Locke’s armor, or the exact shade of green used for Master Chief), introduce camouflage patterns.

I also think it’d be nice if they took a page out of Reach’s book and allowed us to specifically customize our armor per body region. Head/Visor/Shoulders/Chest/Arms/Legs seems perfectly fine to me, but if that’s deemed too much then they could easily remove Arms and Legs from the list.

I can agree with you there, But I think the variants should only be included in REQs, and be unlocked through said system, but should use Reach’s permutation menu. All in all, you make a good point.

100% agree. I don’t mind armor, but when ti just becomes the same pieces with a different paint scheme, it doesn’t appeal to me. I enjoyed how Halo 3/Reach allowed us to create our appearance.

One huge thing I would like to see regarding armor is that you unlock it via achievements for the most part.

I wouldn’t mind this at all, if anything I would rather we level up or do challenges to get basic armor sets, and the armor sets could have variants (Similar to Halo Reach) you could get within REQ packs, in-game currency, or just straight up cash in general. (You’d have to unlock the basic armor set first though)

Halo Reach had the best leveling system, just copy and paste what Reach had and put it into Infinite and it’d be perfect to a T.

Please don’t do this 343i.

Personally I don’t mind a few of the advanced movement mechanics we got from Halo 5 such as using thrusters to evade enemy fire or clambering, those two mechanics I honestly liked and I still think they could have some form of use in the next Halo, if not, then oh well.

There could still be a new Covenant, if anything this time it’d be controlled by Cortana and they’d be siding with the Prometheans, they’d still be a fun enemy. I mean seriously, she straight up recruited a bunch of Grunts, Elites, Drones, Brutes, and Hunters!

No. What made Halo so unique, is that every weapon and vehicle were completely unique and always had something that was different, this also goes for enemies also. I don’t want boring paper cutouts of Covenant enemies but turned into robots, that’d be lame. I think 343i should focus on making brand new enemies as well as weapons and vehicles.
