Once again Reach retakes a spot on the top 20. climbing one spot from 6 to 5.
Awesome =)
Yes and to be honest, it’s because there’s no DLC for Skyrim and players have finally beat the game or finally played their 20th character
I believe we are about 10K down from last weekend and need a week or 2 to see if that’s a more stable thing.
At the beginning of last month we dropped about 20K-30K from the weekend before and stayed stable at that for the month of February.
Tis funny, it’s not that I care so much as I have had the populations tossed out at me so many times that I can’t help but check the hard numbers often. It’s part of my daily updates just because.
Actually what’s really funny is that games played has gone up ratio wise for the players that are still playing. There were less games played compared to the 24hr population this time last year.
There may be less players but they are playing longer/more as a whole.

cool I guess? no not realy…
Its like your kid who got strait A’s grade 1 to sophmore year of highschool then decided not to do the right choice and study. He then gets Ds for 2 years. Am I supposed to be happy he is made a few decent choices and gets C’s now when I know he is fully capable of not being a slacker?
The point is you expect more from them since you know what they are capable of. Any good parent or halo fan for the matter shouldnt think a C or 5 th place is anything to be celebrated when the kid/game company still doesnt make good choices just cuz “it doesnt feel like it”. The kid could study and not slack off and Reach could be the best online Halo to date by making AAs pickups, 110 or 120 movement and jump, and bleedthrough maybe with weaked melee, and putting arena ranks in every playlist save LD, GB, and AS. BLAM! we have a halo again and BOOM the kid gets As again.
On a side note I compete nationally and internationally in weapon style martial arts tournaments. I lost the championship deciding fight in a world tourny last year and came in 2nd. After the match friends and family come up to me and say congratulations for coming in second. I said “For what? Being the best amongst losers?” becuase thats what 2nd is.
Thats the truth. So what about 5th? who cares?
I’m guessing it has something to do with the release of Halo 4 information. People saw it, thought “I haven’t played Reach in a while, maybe i’ll play it to get back into the Halo mood.” And they bopped on.

A glimpse into the absolutist mindset of the competitive halo player.
It carries over to the game. If the game is not 100%, brutally competitive in all ways and at all times, it must be utter trash.
Its a simple, black and white, and not very taxing worldview to have.
And Mike, youre too hard on yourself bro. 2nd internationally is an achievement.
Not all competitive players are like that. Only ones that have “absolutist mindsets” are like that, and there are casual players like that as well.

And a view into the casual player’s mind.
If the game doesn’t make it easy for you to win by adding a myriad of easy to use automatic weapons and it doesn’t allow you to win the match automatically after gaining twenty five kills. The game’s garbage, and the sequel should be easier.
> And Mike, youre too hard on yourself bro. 2nd internationally is an achievement.
I do have to agree with though.
Still going strong.
Nice work Reach ^^
To be honest, i haven’t played Reach in a long time either
I still have like 13 games I need to finish LOL. After I do Gears 3 I’m going to go back to Halo, first CEA and then Reach. Now that I think of it, I’m only a Field Marshall!

Not true at all. In fact the most competitive halo games have produced the most casual gametypes. CE-Race, H2-Zombies, H3-griffball. tell me what halo cult classic mini game has reach added??? yeh none.
What people fail to relaize is that you can use chess pieces to play checkers but you cant use chess pieces to play chess (assumeing we arnt writing on them n such). A game with a solid foundation mechanics wise as with as CE-3 brings more people to the table and the result is that both casuals and competitives thrive. gameplay dependent on player ability not roles of the dice lead to less frustration. a good ranking system puts beginners with beginners and skilled with skilled. I could go on but do you see my point?
Also Im a diehard halo fan, but you know what all my 9-16 yo cousins play? COD I ask them why not halo and they say halo is dead and no one plays it. when I was 13 CE was the game to play, same with H2, and h3. they were all number 1 and it was cuz they were solid games. h3 held off BF, Gears 1-2, COD 1-MW1 and was still #2 to MW2 etc etc.
IMO being proud of being number 5 is a loser mentality, one which makes getting better unlikely. It would be one thing if halo was some obscure game but halo isnt. The traditional halo playstyle was #1 for 10 years, reach changed it and look at the result. Its not even that reach is a bad game, Its not and in fact it is THE BEST ONLINE halo to date, but all the settings choices were wrong and despite being able to change it they still dont.
No my world view is actually very taxing. To not be satisfied easily means working hard for better results. Also I dont play put a ball in a hoop or net game. My martial art uses knives or batons, 2nd in a real fight would of meant I died lol
What i meant was that youre not taking into account several factors hen you say its bad that halo is only #5 now when it was #1 for years.
Such as its only since about 2008 that the halo series has even had any competition online. Halo 2, and original xbox game, still dominated xbox 360, all the way until halo 3 came out, purely due to lack of other decent shooters. Now look at the lineup for online games all vying for peoples time. Not to mention a new damn COD every year. #5 IS pretty good under those circumstances, Im convinced halo 4 will be number 1 anyway.
Also, i get what youre saying about being runner up in a knife fight, but isnt the first thing they teach you is that no matter how good you are, your best skill and strategy for surviving a real knife fight is to run away in the first instance? This is completely OT btw.

Skyrims shelf-life is reduced due to its lack of MP, but it has had tremendous success.

We will see a steady reduction in population as another year of new games is released and once again Halo will be waiting years between main title releases =/

I do the same, population dispersal and increase/reductions are of interest to me.

Thats because we are hardcore =D

You wanna know what I like about guys like you?
Reach looses a spot on the chart and guys like you decry it as a harbinger of doom, it gains one and it does not matter because its not number one =/

For real, high five to Reach =D

Gotta clearly state what you are excited about. The way I initially read your statement was that Halo: Reach had fallen out of the Top 20 games played on Xbox Live and had then gotten back into the Top 20. That didn’t sound right to me and when I looked up the last few weeks, I see that you meant that Halo: Reach had fallen to #6 and then popped back up to #5. That just sounds like the vagaries of game release schedules to me and the enduring power of Halo to consistently kick -Yoink-.

I see how that could be mis-construed but yeah Reach I believe never dropped below 7 =)
Cause it its awesome!

I would LOVE for you to explain how the competitiveness of Halo 3 produced Grifball.

Good thing I haven’t really touched 6-20. Those must be horrible.
