I LOVE the new soundtrack from Neil Davidge. Their are cool and fresh and have an awesome atmosphere to them. I am happy they chose him as the new composer instead of other qualified artists. I love how he is doing a whole new soundtrack with a whole new style. Of course, there is a “but”.
The last two Halo games (before CEA) left a gaping hole in me and (I think) a big part of the community’s hearts. The games played like Halo and felt like Halo, but something fundamental that made Halo what it is was missing. No matter how good ODST’s soundtrack, the absence of some of the classic tracks made the experience less “complete” and less “Halo” than it could have been.
I do not want that for Halo 4.
That said, Halo 4 is a fundamentally new game by a new studio, beginning a new trilogy and a new story, with perfect new graphics. The game deserves a new soundtrack, too.
In his Q&A, Davidge confirmed that he hasn’t adapted any pre-existing music for Halo 4. That hit me hard. I was missing the classics and CEA did a good job reminding me that. But something else was implied during the Q&A: Davidge said he hasn’t composed any “Grunt” songs yet and that he’ll have to ask 343i about it. This means he is still composing new tracks.
If you agree with my cause, fight for it.
What I/we(?) want:
No more than 3 songs should be adapted, each an obvious Halo classic. The songs should all be the answer people will give when asked for a Halo song, not just songs they would recognize as Halo- songs they will define as Halo. Obviously, these songs should be adapted to fit Halo 4’s new style (electronic/orchestral) but should still be instantly recognizable as what they truly are/were.
Let’s decide our suggestions for what classics should be adapted together, shall we. I’ll give the three I think fit the most and we’ll change them up if needed. Keep in mind these are NOT my favorites, but these are very thematic and very obviously Halo:
Listen before you call me a fool, then tell me if I’m wrong. I have specifically chosen three fundamentally different songs in terms of pace and tone.
If you agree with the general idea, vote! And better yet: reply! Keep this thread alive long enough so 343i will see it, they may very well listen. We might still be able to change things around.
