Classic multiplayer maps that should be remade

I think it’d be really cool to see a new version of Damnation/Penance and Chill Out/Cold Storage. I really love the asymmetrical design of both of them and think it’d be cool to see a new aesthetic upgrade with some design tweaks. A new version of Backwash would be pretty cool too, especially with all the potential of the new graphics engine.

Spiritual successor to Boarding Action is all I ask for

My list, in no particular order:

  • Midship - Zanzibar - Blood Gulch - Cold Storage - Valhalla - Lockout - Ivory Tower - Forge World (not a multiplayer map really, but please bring it back as a forge canvas)

I’m pretty sure Blood Gulch is a given. Boarding Action and Chiron-TL34! Has anyone else been able to glitch into the secret room on Boarding Action? Filled with a bunch of pictures of a girlfriend that belonged to a crazy freelancer-artist that Bungie hired? Probably a bit of inspiration for the start of RvB?

Well since Halo CE seems to be an inspiration for Infinite, I would bet that we will see at least 1 map from CE make its way into Infinite.

My pick would either be Death Island or Infinity.

I have the sudden urge to see a ship that got split in twain by the Maginot line. It’d be a start; A destroyed Frigate or Corvette, split in half and heavily damaged instead of the oddly clean split of Boarding Action.

I used to have all the teleporters memorized in Chiron. haha. I’d also love to see it return in some way, and it would be nice to actually get to play it in MCC. I have yet to ever play a game on it in matchmaking.

Honestly, I don’t want any of them to be remade. I don’t want my memories of x map back in the day to be tainted with some new remake.

This said, I’d be ok with a few maps that are “sequels” to old maps or inspired by. For example, maybe a map like high ground is in but “time” has passed. Some rock cliffs have crumbled, the base has been abandoned for years, maybe the water level has raised, etc things like this. So it’ll have some familiar sights maybe of the past but it will look and play totally different.

I feel MP maps in Halo have gotten worst and worst over the years overall. You ask people what there favorite map is in Halo 1,2 or 3 and you’ll get a lot of different answers. Ask people what there favorite map is in Halo 4 or 5 and you’ll get a lot of similar answers. Ultimately, I want new, memorable maps in Halo 6 that blow my socks off!

Those ‘time has passed’ sort of reduxs are my favorites as well, like how they completely redid Wizard from CE into Warlock from H2 as if it were some ancient ruins. But I sort of want to have a map that has the aesthetics of CE, where it’s almost literally just a building or a place. There are little lines enscribed on the floors and walls, but nothing too Forerunner. Just like CE’s MP aesthetics, but entirely different map. Probably contrary to what most people want. But again, just like at least one map like that.

This should be obvious. It should be every map made to date. Each one is so precious in it’s own right someone will always defend their favorite maps. There is no one answer.

Only picking one map per game to keep things interesting…I would like to see:

  • Halo: CE - Blood Gulch - Halo 2 - Lockout - Halo 3 - The Pit - Halo: Reach - Powerhouse - Halo 4 - Haven - Halo 5: Guardians - Plaza

Anyone feel the reach DLC was really well designed and should Get some love?

As long.as 343 actually makes them and doesnt let them be forged by community members Like in halo 5

In no order maps that should be remade are:

  1. Timberland (Halo CE)
  2. Ivory Tower (Halo 2)- Would like to see it remade in a sandbox that doesn’t have jet-packs.
  3. Terminal (Halo 2)
  4. Containment (Halo 2)- I feel like this map would play well with a few teaks and a different sandbox.
  5. Assembly (Halo 3)- I’ve seen enough of Midship and this was an underrated map from Halo 3 that played in a similar way.
  6. Epitaph (Halo 3)
  7. Longshore (Halo 3)
  8. Orbital (Halo 3)
  9. Guardian (Halo 3)- Amazed this hasn’t been remade yet honestly.
  10. Power house (Halo Reach)
  11. The cage/uncaged (Halo Reach)- I feel like this would play much better in a sandbox without jet-packs.
  12. Highlands (Halo Reach)- I feel like this map was a few tweaks away from being really fun.
  13. Tempest (Halo Reach)
  14. Boardwalk (Halo Reach)
  15. Paradiso (Halo Reach)
  16. Anchor 9 (Halo Reach)- Halo needs BTB maps that aren’t laid out like Blood Gulch and Sidewinder.
  17. Sword base (Halo Reach)- Would be interesting to see how it plays with no jet-packs.
  18. Daybreak (Halo 4)- I feel like if this map had a different sandbox it would have played much better.
  19. Exile (Halo 4)

Imho, the remakes of these maps should never be missing in any chapter of the saga:

I think it had some boring layouts but some of the most interesting gameplay hooks.

I should clarify by boring I mean they felt more like iterations than wholely original but that isn’t a bad thing it’s just a thing. I think less unsc architecture would have helped.

To be honest, I don’t need any remakes. I’m sure that some maps will continue their presence in Infinite (Blood Gulch - coagulation - valhalla - rangarok / Midship - Heretic - Truth) but other than that I really am not into more. The most important factor is gameplay. There is no further information about the gameplay-direction and maps have to be built around the movement system.

I’ll use Damnation as an example, it’s one of my favorite maps of all times. But just removing one important mechanic called -fall damage- changes everything. Damnation plays no where near like damnation, when there is no fall damage. Lockout (I don’t like lockout, but it’s just another example) won’t play like lockout, when there is clamber. And this was just the part about movement-mechanics. Then there is the 2nd component, the gunplay / weapon sandbox. Place a very open H2 BTB Map in H3 you will get a whole new experience, just because one game is more specialized in projectile weapons and the other one in hitscan. The list continues on and on.

And even if S.A. will be taken out (hopefully), I would still not want more remakes. I really think that it’s time to be creative again. Surely you can use one or another map as an inspiration (maybe something that didn’t work out back then) and try to make it somehow fun. But I really don’t need 1:1 copies w. some graphical improvements.

TL;DR All resources shold be used for completly new & unique maps that fit the movement-system / weapon sandbox in Infinite.

-Terminal
-Backwash
-Blood Gulch
-Longshore
-High Grounds
-Sidewinder
-Lockout
-Ivory Tower

I’m all for remakes DEPENDING on what kind of gameplay H6 will have. If they’d have to be re-scaled to the extent we see in H5 I’d rather just have original maps catering to the gameplay style.
