Classic HW Spartan Tanks Are back!

This is rediculous… 12 pop a Spartan? They better be ungodly OP for that cost. I’ll seriously riot if they are utterly trash like the rest of the UNSC Heros…

The population cost for the leader ability alone could very easily cost you the game… 36 pop for 2000/2000?

I have trouble seeing how 3 Spartans can equal the same pop count (more or less) as a Scarab or Condor. Certainly, I doubt that three Spartans could bring down either one on their own.

I don’t think they’re intended to do that, even Erradication has never been a one-shot vs Super Units. Why three Spartans should?

Eradication doesn’t take up more than a 4th of your total population by themselves and half of the total population when hijacked.

Edit: If they didn’t cost population or at most 7 pop a piece, then they’d be playable.

Well you have to think about the hijack ability. Yes 12 each is huge, but if you go into a battle with three tanks loaded with spartans and you are going against wraiths/locusts/grizzlies/other scorps, if you battle them for a bit, do some decent damage, and then hijack the vehicles that you didnt damage, you successfully destroyed their army, and you still have three spartans that are now in another fresh vehicle. Combine this with heading to their base and as soon as they pop a few vehicles or air up, you should be able to hijack those vehicles and decimate them. The real power of them will come from vehicle bouncing, in my opinion. The current spartans arent great now but if you micro them you can take out the enemies heavier vehicles/air, so with three spartans, with proper micro, you should be able to work wonders on heavier armies. This playstyle may force your enemy to go infantry or mass air and vehicle (banshees, marauders, hornets, hogs) instead to prevent the spartans from taking half the army. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when someone with good micro skills gets a hold of omega team, maybe even in teams with their teammate being jerome too, boom thats 6 vehicles you can jack right off the bat. Just something to think about, dont use the 3 spartans as a one time jack in your own vehicles.

36 pop? They better be better than Superman, Batman, Iron Man, Terminator, Robo Cop, The Incredible Hulk, Hulk Hogan, Spider-Man, Gandalf, Chuck Norris, Bruce Lee and every single Power Ranger rolled into one.

The only thing is Omega team is 36 pop 2000/2000. That’s a Condor pretty much.

I just want to See armor like this in an fps. Along with a mode where practical use of the armor is welcome.

In the mean time you have 57-63 pop when you hijack a decent vehicle and they’ll get wrecked by equal amount of pop. You can have a Scarab and 6-7 Engineers or 4 Hunters for the same cost and nothing for them to Hijack.

It’s situational, as is a lot of this game. Say he has an Isabel tank army and you have a 3 spartan tanks, once you get low on health, hijack three of their tanks. Or if you went air and he went tanks and AA, jack his AA so he does’t have a counter. Or if they are in the hornets or vultures, Once they are about to die, jack 3 tanks so his AA are useless. It’ll be these quick, strategic, and situational moves that could turn the tide of a game. Not to mention a Condor has direct counters, AA, but spartans can become any type of unit, infantry, vehicle or Air, so there isn’t really a hard counter to them.

Lose your tanks, hijack theirs, they have time to reinforce with anti-units, lose those tanks lose massive health and mac blast before you have hijack recharged. The cost is ridiculous plain and simple.

Infantry or a super unit and it makes that population cap unbelievable…I’m sure the Spartans die easily when they aren’t in a hijacked vehicle. I’d be okay with 8-10 per spartan, but that would be max.

8-10 still puts them over the leader ability with hijacked vehicles though.

Okay so the counter to tanks it either hunters, or air. Im pretty sure if you don’t wait around, unless we are talking late game, they won’t be able to get a substantial amount of hunters out, so jump out of the tanks and take them out with the spartans on foot since hunters suck at anti infantry (or at least they should). If they bring air, jack it. I’m not saying the cost isn’t high but the potential is also high in the right hands. Not to mention, once you get the sprtans, provided you keep them alive, you can use your money to make your own units, while being able to jack other units and take away population. Most people don’t bring counters to their own army, unless they are going against a similar army. Also late game many people don’t go infantry unless you are cutter, so people DQ the barracks and wont have immediate access to hunters or cyclopses. Again, it’s situational and if you plan accordingly, can be effective. Don’t be so negative if you haven’t even see gameplay or tried the units out since they haven’t been released yet.

WOOOOOOOO SEE this is cool man! I have only one problem though.

  • Jerome is using a Hydra, that is freakin cool and I couldn’t ask for a better spartan. - The other member of the Omega trio uses a Railgun, calling to 343’s weapon design is not a bad idea. - The next member of the Omega trio uses an ENERGY SWORD, Hell yeah! Why the -Yoink- not, Its definitely a question as to how he got it without being issued it specifically, but ok! - The final member of the Omega Trio uses a Covenant Turret? Ok this might be leaning a little weirdly toward’s covenant, unless that’s some sort of Gauss Minigun like that Gatling Lazer from Fallout 4!

These might be a little subjective to call out in the order I did, but I could take this equally as weirdly if I said “Having this guy hold an energy sword is kind’ve pushing it!”.
Honestly, I’d like to say that having an Energy sword as a weapon is a great idea to represent the playerbase in a trio of spartans, but It just stranges me out that two of their weapons are clearly covenant.
Can anyone else prove me wrong on this?

In terms of gameplay for Halo Wars 2, I’m excited to be able to have Jerome and Arbiter Ripa Moramee as leaders, and to have some Spartans to play with.

But in terms of lore, this has further skewed the Spartan-II discrepancy and the halo lore entirely. The names of the Spartans are honestly weird, at first I thought they were non-canon. And the concept art is terms of lore is stupid. What happened to MJOLNIR Mk IV? I was beginning to think that 343 Industries was in the process to fix the errors in the halo lore and canon and the Spartan-II roster and preserve the original halo lore while expanding the universe with the new games, books, and comics, but I am now doubting that possibility. I completely understand the perspective of creating better and more awesome gameplay, but it would have been nice if we could achieve that while somewhat sticking to lore.

As for the fact that Omega Team does comprise of six Spartans, all this means is that we know of three of them and they are playable in Halo Wars 2, though I don’t believe they should be considered canon. Sergeant Forge, Sergeant Johnson and Arbiter Ripa Moramee are all confirmed leaders in Halo Wars 2 whom are dead, but that doesn’t mean that they were resurrected in lore. Forge and Ripa still died in 2531, and Johnson still died in 2553. There presence in HW2 gameplay doesn’t change that, so I’m not sure how three Spartans wearing Mk IV in 2531 are now supposed to be canon in 2559 wearing whatever the hell kind of armor that they were seen wearing.

It was even said in Halo: First Strike, a book that was originally released in 2003, that Doctor Catherine Halsey was one of the only people who can tell who each Spartan was individually inside of there armor, insinuating, assuming, and confirming that they all looked the same.

I employ 343 Industries to fight to protect the lore of the franchise without severely altering the Halo universe, and to keep making more and more improved gameplay.

That does seem like a valid strategy. I really can’t stand waiting to try all this stuff out. Its been two weeks coming!

Just played as Jerome. See updated OP. I think they actually might be awesome. Assuming tomorrow’s balance changes don’t nerf this. Side note, that Enduring Drop is awesome. Took off half a bases’ health.
