Classic Halo on Pc

So I was thinking, before Halo infinte gets relesed in PC. 343 should focus on putting classic Halo back on PC starting with Halo 3 and ODST and Reach while working on Halo infinite cause I don’t think its even to go from Halo 2 PC, then Halo 5: Forge (Which isn’t even Halo campain releated) and then Halo infinite. And yes, I know that Halo wars, Halo wars 2, Spartan strike/assault are on PC. Anyone agree or is it just me? My conclusion is they should’nt jump from Halo 2 to Halo 6.

Logistically, it’s not going to happen anytime soon:

Active projects:

  • Halo Infinite
  • ‘Fix MCC’ (Xbox One)
  • Support Halo Wars 2
  • Support Halo 5 Guardians.

They’re working on at least 7 games at the moment, it would be extremely difficult to then add another layer to the mix by porting/releasing Halo 3, ODST, 4 and Reach for PC. In Reach’s case, the game isn’t even running on x86 architecture so that would take even more time and money to port than 3, ODST and 4, which are running on x86 architecture via the Master Chief Collection.

Then there’s the small issue of MCC not being fixed yet. 343 are admirably working on bringing the game to a state where fans and 343 themselves can be proud of and so far they’re doing a good job. Porting MCC in its current form with bugs would see the launch suffer on PC or possibly create more issues. The games would then have to be adapted to suit the PC market as PC gamers have different expectations to console gamers. This is evident with the previous Halo releases on PC.

For example:

Halo PC/CE

  • Allowed substantial modding
  • Great mouse and keyboard support with low latency
  • High resolutions and refresh rate

Halo 2 Vista

  • Mouse acceleration and input lag for mouse and keyboard made the game difficult to play and the controller was the only way to play properly.
  • Extremely buggy and crashed for a lot of users. Physics, fire rates and more were all altered accidentally due to the increase in framerate.
  • Minimal mod support
  • Forced PC gamers to get Xbox Live Gold to play (initially) and only a 5 CD key install limit
  • Forced Windows Vista at a time when XP was still dominant.

Halo PC presented itself as a PC game and despite a few issues, it succeeded. Halo 2 on the other hand had major issues and was ported extremely badly by Hired Gun and combined with poor choices by Microsoft, saw the game flop on PC. In other words, Halo 3, ODST, 4 and Reach would need to have great mouse and keyboard support, vast resolution and graphical options and optionally, a map editor or vastly enhanced Forge mode. There’s also the issue that the game would only be released on the Windows Store, which in itself is extremely buggy and pales in comparison to Steam. The ability for users to fix any issues that may crop up would also be severely inhibited by the game being a Windows Store game, unlike say in the past where the consumer fixed almost all the issues Halo PC had ourselves.

Those are just some of the reasons in brief detail. At best, it will not happen until MCC is fixed and even then, Reach will not happen unless it gets ported to MCC for Xbox One, meaning the bulk of the work would then be done for a PC version.

Oh ok. I see what they are saying. Would it be eaiser if they just realesed MCC for PC after all those 7 things are done?

MCC on PC would be the best way to bring the Halo franchise to PC, once the Xbox version is fixed as this will help to minimalise any issues on the PC port.

I mean, you do have H1 Custom Edition, H2 Project Cartographer, and H3 Online all for PC. Granted it takes a little effort and work to get all those games up and running but well worth it imo.

That’s what I was thinking

Most of the games are set on the PC by fan made communities. Isn’t like 343 is not taking their responsibilities to let the experience welcome more players?
