Classic Arena is an absolute MUST.

When the TU drops, and Anniversary releases the maps. I’m pretty sure most of us will want more than a Team Classic playlist.

Right now Arena is extremely flawed. The skill gap is vastly reduced by Sprint, Jetpack, Bloom, Grenades, and Melee. But Team Classic is going to become the defining skill-based playstyle until MLG modifies all their gametypes with the new settings.

Basically I have suggestions for the gametype-map variants in Classic Arena as well, to keep them competitive.

Every veto will come up with 2 options. The top will always be Halo 2 Slayer, the bottom will always be Halo CE Slayer. Here are some specs…

Halo 2 Slayer

TU settings: Zero Bloom, Bleedthrough, Nerfed Grenades ON.

Loadout 1: 4 shot DMR, no AA, 1 frag grenade.

Player Traits: Movement Speed 110%, Jump Height 120%, Gravity 90%, Melee Damage 75%.

Maps: Hang 'em High, Beaver Creek, Prophet, Magus, Eclipse, Prolonged.

Halo CE Slayer

TU settings: Zero Bloom, Bleedthrough, nerfed Melee ON.

Loadout 1: AR, 3 shot Magnum, no AA, 1 frag grenade.

Player Traits: Movement Speed 120%, Gravity 90%, Player Damage 110-120%, Melee damage 75%.

Maps: Damnation, Prisoner, Hang 'em High, Beaver Creek, Magus, Rat Trap.

No love for Classic?

I love classic, and I think your idea is awesome but I don’t see it happening sadly. That is why I play the classic playlist right now, it has almost all of the samethings you said above. To baed only 327 people atually play the playlist.

While i do agree that Arena is broken and long for a classic ranked list(s) there is a slight flaw in your suggestion.

While having DMR and AR/Magnum starts as 2 different gametypes is a good idea, the slight differences between movement speed and melee bleed-through isnt a good idea, for a ranked list it needs to be consistent.

TU update - zero bloom, classic movement speeds/ jump/ etc, No AA’s, nerfed 'nade’s would make it consistent and give us an actual skill gap which Arena failed to provide.

I also hope that the old shield system (heads = faster shield removal) come’s back as that is a main part of the skill gap.

Arena as a whole should be more like classic. No armor abilities, increased movement, double overshields, shorter power weapon respawns.

You don’t need to split it between ‘Halo 2 slayer’ and ‘Halo CE slayer’ though.

I don’t think they’d wanna make Arena unbalanced. The CE magnum would be hoarded by just about everyone. I agree though that Arena needs some sort of overhaul, but maybe just TU gameplay instead of classic. I’d say just keep weapon damages the same, but just get rid of bloom, add faster movement, higher jump, no AA’s (except maybe sprint), etc.

If 85% bloom works and the Sword Block nerf becomes popular (which they just might!) then they will likely be implemented into Arena as well. A grenade nerf outside the realm of fuse time, though, is not happening. Arena, as a Reach innovation, ought to contain the best that Reach gameplay has to offer. There’s already going to be several Classic playlists after Anniversary, so those player who want a classic experience can have it. But that Classic playlist also deserves a ranking system. Because, on a general basis, the players backing the idea [of Classic] are very good at the game, we need a system in place that ensures that nub cakes don’t get steamrolled.

The settings just be Classic Arena Slayer:

No bloom, DMR/3 sk Magnum starts, melee bleedthrough, 120% speed, 125% jump height, 150% gravity, 100% damage/melee, 2 frags, no AAs and power ups in the map.

Magnum to kick some 4ss in Close-Med and DMR in Long range.

Yes! But I would like to see just CE settings. Remember, this is CE Anniversary, not H2 Anniversary. Having such radically different gametypes in the same hyper-competitive playlist is a no no anyways. I would like to see regular Arena adopt no bloom and bleedthrough, with a classic arena featuring the 3sk magnum, among other things (no AAs, etc).

Things that need to be fixed in the Classic Playlist:

Classic Rifles should not start everyone out with an AR/NR. I have no idea why they started everyone out with a NR.

Bleedthroughs must exist.

No bloom on the DMR.

Classic Pistol.

More players need to know this playlist actually exists.

I don’t see why 343 would bother trying to fix Arena: no one likes it. It caters to a very narrow minority of gamers, it is uninteresting and inaccurate, and more importantly it isn’t even competitive.

MLG isn’t that skilled since it still has Reach mechanics dragging it down.

The maps and gametypes allow for a lot more teamwork and skill to shine than on any other settings, but bloom is the only issue.

I totally agree with a no AA’s playlist. I hate the AA’s including sprint. There are some people who like the idea of just sprint. I think it ruins halo for me and many others.

Im all for classic playlists meaning the way the game was for halo 1 2 and 3 generally.

Your first two points make no sense, Arena gets at least six times the amount of players Classic has at any given time.
