Classic Anniversary Maps/Normal Gametypes

Will we ever be getting a chance to play the classic versions of the Anniversary maps in matchmaking, but without the Anniversary gametypes?

I don’t see why we can’t enjoy say for example, Classic Headlong with the normal TU settings. Of course these versions would need the Cloak/Overshield removed or whatever.

The older placement of weapons and vehicles were better compared to what we got for the other version, but that’s just me. Same thing with Beaver Creek.

I see no problem with the Reach version of the maps, not much is changed, just some small opened areas and what not.

I believe the Reach versions were made just for this, because some of the Anniversary versions are built to work with Anniversary’s settings.

I agree with the OP, especially regarding Beaver Creek. Battle Canyon has a horrible over-abundance of power weapons:

A Shotgun inside each base.
A Sword in the middle of the creek.
Grenade Launchers atop each base.
Rockets and Sniper in their normal positions.

Aside from the Grenade Launchers I can’t see why 2 Shotguns and a Sword should ever exist together on such a small map, especially when said map can appear in the doubles playlist.

As for Headlong/Breakneck - I like both but it would be nice to play the original without the crippled jump and 3 shot kill Magnum from the Anniversary settings. The jump is just ridiculously low and the pistol copies nothing from CE but the killing power, leaving much to be desired in its consistency.

I think I’d like to see the Classic settings in other playlists. Not just Anniversary.

There’s nothing wrong with the New versions, but there is the old familiarity of the classic version as well that differ, but I don’t see how Anniversary settings affect them really. Like the teleporters in the back of beaver creek moving from the base to the little tunnel.

Why have to mess around with the 3-shot magnum just to ride around in the gauss warthog instead of the whole race to the banshee that happens on the other version.

Wouldn’t be a problem really if the weapons and vehicles overall didn’t wildly differ.

I brought this up on the MLG forums when Frankie was posting and he tried to belittle me b/c he clearly doesn’t understand how broken it makes the map.

So basically it’s Sword Base 2.0 right?

Yeah, that map is tiny. If you want to see a proper power weapon placement on small maps, then look at Arena Zealot. I see no reason to have a power weapon for almost everyone in the game. As for improvements…

  1. Remove the Sword and Shotguns, put a shotgun at Sword Spawn
  2. I really don’t know why we have a Sniper on this map (or even DMR/NR’s), It really doesn’t make much sense.
