Clans and Halo 4.

I can honestly say that the most recent Halo bulletin has dropped my anticipation for Halo 4. Don’t get me wrong, I am still very excited for the game regardless and it will be in my Halo collection come November 6.

The following response was (at least for me) extremely disheartening:

“Those were temp names for the E3 build. The final game will ship with variants aplenty, but these will NOT be user customizable, nor should they be confused with clans, groups or other social modes of team identification. Effectively these are fictional constructs that we will give the player some choice options”

One of the things that I was looking forward to was the inclusion of customisable team names. I would’ve loved to see my clans initials “ESK” lined up next to the points just like a football team. I figured that perhaps we would be given the capability to customise our “team name” just like we do with our service tag. Now that I know that isn’t the case, I am disappointed. Giving us a selection of names is nice, but giving us full customisation would’ve been better in my opinion.

It is not stated straight up but when you are told that you shouldn’t confuse this system with clans, groups or social modes of team identification, we can pretty much ascertain that they aren’t going to be included into the game.

I was really hoping for the clan system to be brought back and a leader board along with it to make Halo competitive again.

I have trust that 343 is still going to make Halo 4 competitive and awesome for us veteran players.

Tell me what you think guys, I am interested to see if anyone genuinely doesn’t want customisable team settings.

Same here man maybe they will do it

I just wonder if there is a reason as to why they aren’t giving us customisation of the name. I mean sure, the multiplayer is being tied in with the lore of Halo now, but the second that its starts to interfere with the customisability of Halo’s multiplayer aspect is the second it starts to lose some of its appeal.

I would be really happy if a representative of 343 Industries would be able to make a comment on this, is it possible at all that the current naming system could change to player customisable?

Or is it locked in?

I really want some clarification on this, whether it be a list of names that is shown in the next bulletin or a clear cut reason as to why we aren’t allowed to customise our team names.

I just think that this is a really easy way to create a point of interest for Halo’s multiplayer.

Nobody’s going to fully embrace clans until Microsoft implements a feature for them on the Xbox itself.

Period.

Maybe to some extent, but I don’t feel that this is entirely true. Plenty of people from Halo 3 and Halo Reach came into a team slayer game with all emblems matching all together in the same party.

It happened to me MANY times and I think that these are just the people that would utilise this sort of system they would love if it were to be implemented.

I meant game devs

I’m glad that they are not including a clan system, but I am a little disappointed that we cannot customize the team name. I don’t really see how that would have been that much work. I’m sure we’d have to deal with stupid names and random letter names and people “cleverly” sneaking in bad words, but it still would have been sorta nice.

I guess keeping the pre-set names is a way of making sure you dont go up against team “Donkey Smash Cupcake” or team “kDEakdnDWBVxx” or “xXxMLG420forlyfeBRxXx”.

If that were the problem why don’t they just limit the name to five letters/numbers? They’ve done it with the service tag with it originally consisting of one letter two numbers and then the bump up to four letters/numbers in Reach. I would just like an answer from 343 Industries so I am going to ask nicely.

343 Industries, you know that I have a love for you guys like any other man would love a company that has yet to produce a game (which is surprisingly a lot), so would you be so kind as to provide some answers to this query?

Purty Please?

clans would be cool i however wouldnt join or start one i dont want to feel as though i HAVE to play at certain times or days i like to play with a couple close friends and beyond that … eh not for me dont get me wrong if somebody wanted to join a clan more power to ya just aint my style

Hmm…I wonder what groups are…

While I do agree OP, a leader board and further customization would be nice, the fact is the implementation, etc. of this may not be possible with the current technologies available to 343, maybe it hogged up too much bandwidth, etc… Either way, I’m just happy with the customization we are getting so…

I mean yeah the multiplayer is being incorporated into the Halo story but that can only go so far. I mean there will be millions of people playing this game so if that is the case then are millions of Spartans are waiting to be deployed into battle? Then the Master Chief can retire with his feet up because there is no way the Covenant or Prometheans are stopping a 10 million Spartan unit AKA every person who buys this game and signs onto Xbox Live lol

Lets simply call it like it is… 343 is not looking to do any form of clan support at this point in time. Customized name tags don’t take much effort and I don’t feel that implementing them take away from gameplay because it wont stop you from teaming up with the same group of people time and time again whether it indicates that you are all in a clan or not.

I have not seen a true effort for clan support since the early Halo 2 days. Back when your clan friends list was on separate from your XBL friends list and you could take part in online clan matches. I would be great to see the Halo franchise try that again.
