Christmas Wishlist (from an Engineer)

Halo is a headliner for the Xbox platform. It helped launch an entire generation of gameplay, the birth of console competitive, and was a benchmark in many of our lives. I became an engineer because of this game, and how much I loved it.

So please, from one long term gamer to an entire company of gamers… Fix This Game. These issues would have bankrupted any startup game. I never thought it would have been easy to make Call of Duty look good, but congrats, you did it! I sat on Destiny in an open world with 16 people and almost two dozen enemies, and not a single problem. I played Titanfall, Assassins Creed with my brother in Texas (I’m in Maryland), and not a problem. I can’t even party up with my best friend down the street. When I do get into a game, the screen sits on a black page for half of it before booting me.

And before you tell me to check my nat, understand that I’m not a 14 year old playing this for the first time. Running an open NAT on a dedicated line with 42 Down, 13 Up is really easy when you can pay for it. My ping is floating in the 30s, and I can watch netflix on 4 tvs while downloading the latest release of BackTrack to put on my old Galaxy S4.

So please, Engineers, SysAdmins, Network Architects, and every tech geek over there reading this. From one cyber engineer to another, fix this. This launch will go down in history as one of the worst in XB1. It is unforgivable to run a game so treasured by millions into the dirt so easily. Besides, after 7 games, it seemed like it was almost really really incredibly difficult to screw up matchmaking.

Prove me wrong. Maybe there’s something I’m not doing right, or something that needs added. Maybe I just need to uninstall and reinstall it again. Let me know and I’ll test it for you. Hell, tell one of your DBAs to call me and I’ll walk them through every problem I’m having. Just give us a good christmas and fix it.

For the most part matchmaking is stable right now. It won’t ever get to the point where you find a game in seconds like Call of Duty, Madden, or Battlefield, but give it 30 seconds and 5 times out of 10 you’ll be in a game. Those other 5 times it’ll probably take 1-3 minutes to find a game.

I agree, but just one thing I noticed: Destiny was never 16 players.

It’s been a month, three days, and how many patches? The game has only barely improved. Matchmaking times are still slow, the roster is still bugged, there are many other technicalities that need to be fixed, and I JUST NOW got black-screened out a a game. The game is not stable at all yet.

And out of all those game, whether it takes 30 seconds or 3 minutes, you will either get disconnected 3 out of 10 and the rest there will be a 50% risk of 3v4, 3v5, and 50% quitters or afk’s. Could anyone imagine 343 actually playing this game? Because if they were, they would actually solve all these problems!!!
