Choose a Current Design for Each Existing Infantry

If you had to choose one design for the following units to appear in Halo: Infinite from an existing Halo game, what would you pick?

Grunts
Halo CE - I miss their straight triangular backpacks and classic mouthpieces

Elites
Halo 3 - I like the tough but flexible appearance with their eel-like skin, shark-like faces and pointed helmets. H2A Elites were too fragile-looking while Halo 4/5 Elites are too monstrous.

Jackals
Halo CE - I miss the old brown and grey gecko-like appearance of the original Jackals. Halo 2, 3 and Reach Jackal’s are too birdlike. Halo 4/5 Jackals look like piranhas.

Hunters
Halo 3 - I prefer when the Lekgolo worms were numbered and slimy looking. I prefer the traditional blue knight-like armour as well.

Brutes
Halo 3 - I like Reach’s armour the most, but I prefer the facial structure of the Halo 3 Brutes. I’d prefer them with more hair though like in Halo 2.

Drones
Halo: Reach - Not much to say here. I appreciate that they each look different between ranks, but I’d prefer if the colouring varied a little more (though still less than ODST’s).

Infection Forms
Halo CE - I miss when they looked swollen and wobbled around glowing on and off. I also prefer the red-tipped tendrils over Halo 2’s brown ones without them being as in-your-face as Halo 3’s.

Combat Forms
Halo 3 - The twisted, tortured appearance is the still most horrifying we’ve had so far, yet not overdone.

Sentinel Aggressors
Halo 3 - I like the ancient-technological mix. I just wish there were a few less blue lights and that they had the red glow at the end of the Sentinel Beam like in CE. I don’t like Halo 4’s Tron Sentinels.

Sentinel Constructors
Halo 3 - The same reason as the Aggressors. It’s strange that they only appear briefly in Halo 3.

Marines
Reach - I’d like Reach’s marines but with more of a classic CE vibe, maybe in the colouring. I don’t like the overly bulky Halo 4/5 marines.

ODSTs
Halo 3 - Hands down. The Reach ones got the colouring a little wrong in my opinion, and I don’t see them surviving in the vacuum of space with their fingers exposed. The H2A ones look too different from what we know, so I didn’t even consider them.

How about you?

I would say quite every infantry of Halo 3, but of course a little bit ‘remastered’. About Halo 3 marines for example: they should be a more realistic ( like in reach are ).
I think Halo 3 Jackals and Grunts are better than CE’s ones, even if CE is always better than Halo 4 and 5 ( speaking about graphic and designs ).

Talking about weapons and vehicles I have no doubt at all: I’d pick Reach ( except for the AR ). No reason to explain: it was Halo 3 but more realistic.

Grunts | Reach.
Jackals | Could care less about these sanity-breakers.
Elites | Halo Reach. Their armor specifically. The species themselves could be H2A. Killer Instinct already showed us this combo and it’s perfect. Reach armor to me looks intimidating and cool.
Brutes | Hard to say. Maybe the variety of Halo 3.
Drones | Halo Reach.
Hunters | Reach/H2A.
Infection Forms | Halo 3/CEA.
Combat Forms | Halo 3, and I agree with the OP’s views on them.
Aggressor Sentinels | H2A’s aren’t bad, but the Halo 3 versions have an odd charm.
Constructor Sentinels | I don’t think there’s really any difference from H2, H2A and H3, so I’m indifferent.
Marines | H2A or a H3A esque-design as they seem to have in the E3 trailer.
ODSTs | Halo 3 had a certain charm, so I’ll go with that.

Grunts Reach, by far the best looking ones so far imho!
Jackals Reach again (plus I miss the Skirmishers, had an awesome design)
Elites H2A, also don’t see how they’re supposed to be fragile. To me they look agile, elegant, yet deadly.
Brutes H3, you can tell they put a lot of effort into them
Drones Reach
Hunters H2A.
Infection Forms classic HCE, grotesque at it’s finest!
Combat Forms H3, because of variety, color scheme and animation
Sentinels are fairly identical in every version, but HW2 nailed them better imho!
Marines Reach, gritty and still futuristic looking. Like them a lot!
ODSTs H2A, got chills when they drop from the sky!

Grunts-reach
Jackals-reach but with halo 4’s heavy jackals and hopefull a return of skirmishers
Elites-reach with all their armor options from all the games
Hunters-halo 5
Brutes-halo wars 2 again with all their armor throughout the fps games and the banished ones
Drones-reach
All flood forms-halo wars 2
sentinels-h2a or h3
marines/odst-reach

Grunts - Halo 2A
Elites (Species) - Halo 2A
Elites (Armour) - Halo 2A and Halo: Reach
Jackals - Halo 2A
Hunters - Halo 5
Brutes (Species) - Halo 3
Brutes (Armour) - Mix between Halo 3 and Halo Wars 2 (cutscenes)
Drones - Halo 2A
Flood - Halo Wars 2 (cutscenes)

ODST - Halo 3: ODST

Just off the top of my head.

Grunts: Reach
Elites (Penotypes): Halo 4/5 and H2A
Hunters: H5G
Jackals: Halo 4/5 and H2A
Aggressor Sentinels: Halo 4
ODSTs: Reach or HW2

As of now

As much as I give Reach hell…

They had some of the best diversity in Infantry armor and design. To this day this is the only Infantry design of the UNSC I like. No other Halo game comes close in my opinion, this is how I imagined future military to look especially the Marines and their visor.

Elites, the Halo 3 Elites are my favorite.

Brutes, again Halo 3 Brutes had so much diversity in armor and ranks.

Drones, gotta give it to ODST the different ranks make senses they’re an insect hive it would make sense for different designs.

Grunts, Reach again, even Halo 5 had to take some of those designs.

Jackals, Halo 1 Jackals were very interesting and diverse.

Flood, I’m glad someone else acknowledged the glowing Flood, I also miss when they had their own theme.

Forerunner, Halo Wars 2 had an interesting Forerunner design for their sentinels especially the one in the DLC.

Hunters, Halo 5 don’t care what you say those White and Blue Hunters looked so cool.

Basically halo 2 anniversary design for all of them

Elites: halo 2a
Grunts: halo ce and 4
Brutes: halo 2a and hw2
Drones: halo 2a
Hunters: halo 4
Jackals: halo ce and 4
Flood: halo 2a
Marines: halo wars 2 and halo 2a
Odst: hw2

Halo 3, pretty much across the board, particularly Elites. Like OP said, the H3 Elites got everything right; the skin, the armor, the physiology, all of it.

H2A Elites are good, too, but I think the armor is somehow “off,” not sure I can explain. Physically, they look pretty much just like H3 elites, but the armor is decidedly more bulky, and feels more inspired by H4/H5 elite armor (which was, obviously, designed for bulkier Elite models).

H4/5 elites are brutes after all…
