Chief's Rate?

This may be a ridiculous and possibly previously answered question. But considering that prior to Halo 4 and the introduction of the SPARTAN branch of the UNSC military, Chief and I assume the other Spartan IIs were (are?) technically in the Navy. And as a MCPO, what is Chief’s rate in the Navy? Unless they made a secret rate for the Spartan IIs, perhaps SO?

I think he and all other SII’s are MCPO even with Navy.

I suppose that’s possible, but that’s rank, not rate.

Not all of them reached MCPO. 058 and 087, for example, hold the rank of Petty Officer, First Class. 104 received a commission and made his way up to Lieutenant, Junior Grade.

As for OP’s question-
I don’t think specific rates have ever been made clear within the Halo universe.
We know how UNSC rank structure is laid out and where known UNSC personnel fit into that rank/pay grade structure, but otherwise, there isn’t really much information regarding that subject.

I know right? Well, I suppose if nothing else, it’s something fun to speculate.

If I honestly had to guess they probably now hold their own SPECIFIC rank within the structure, assuming they’re still part of the Navy and not, technically, the Spartan Branch
I think they’re still technically Navy (as they answer to Lasky specifically)…so rate wise, probably the same as what an MCPO is in the US Navy, since the majority of the UNSC seems to follow our ranking structure.
Makes sense to me at least since I’ve always figured that the U.S. had a MASSIVE part in forming the original sections of the UNSC.

What do you mean by rate?

The specific job designation Chief would have as a member of the UNSC Navy. My guess would be either SO (Special Operations) or a secret rate designation for Spartans specifically.
