Is the new MIJLNOR Armor that chief wears the Mark VII? I was asking since the pictures of the first mission have him wearing it as well… That being said, is this just an aesthetic update of the MIJLNOR Mark VI?
Its mark VI and they just wanted to give him a new look but I think they’ve done something in the story to explain.
It’s Mark VI, just re-designed…for some reason. Honestly I don’t see why they couldn’t just take his old armor and make it look better without removing whole chunks out.
Artistic Liberties.
343 think Chief needed to look more like a walking tank, as described in the novels.
Nanobots!
Nanobots Nanobots!

His suit doesn’t have nanobots.

I agree. The Bungie Mk VI could have just had a slight overhaul but kept its fundamental design underneath, this new one still looks good but it a strange way to start the new trilogy.
Too late now though.

What makes you say that?
There is the gameinformer thing with Frankie, there is the Glasslands introduction to Nanobots.
The Chiefs armour is re designed purely for artistic purposes. New company, new designs.

Because they wanted to do better than what Bungie did, even design wise?
Hell Ensemble even went so far as to redesign Mk V armor simply because they wanted the game to look and feel like their own creation as much as the franchise was Bungie’s. It’s just part of the creative process. However, I do distinctly remember 343 saying that there WAS a reason why the Chief’s armor has been upgraded. You’ll just have to wait for the game to find out what.

The nanobot explanation sucks because of the fact that they can apparently redesign the armor yet not patch up that gash on his chest.

He isn’t wearing mark VII.
Just a new design my friend.
The only thing that relates to story is how Cortana changed the suit’s firmware.

Halo wars spartans are wearing Mark IV

That was Mk IV armor in Halo Wars.
Personally I wish that 343i would bow to the established Halo universe that they profess to love rather than bending and reshaping it to sooth their ego. They tell us that they’re all massive Halo fans and as soon as they get control of the Halo franchise they start changing the look of everything, and thats a bizarre way to back up those claims.

You are correct!!! In a GameInformer interview with Frankie, he said that the main reason for the change was just because of the new artists but he did say that there was a canonical reason for the change.

Its around 3:40.

This is a good example of fuzzy storytelling and inconsistency. On one hand we are expected just to roll with the new Chief Mk VI suit design and on the other hand we’re expected to believe there was a canonical explanation behind the redesign of his HUD. If you’re going to do something then just stick with it, if the armor hardware redesign is artistic license then they should just stick with that reason for the HUD redesign as well.
The HUD redesign explanation by Cortana just isn’t necessary, and naturally leads to the next question of “…And what happened to my suit?”.
At present it paints a fuzzy confusing picture of why the Chiefs armor and HUD have changed.

I honestly can’t wait to hear what the canonical reason for the change is. I can only guess its nanobots… nanobots that weren’t there before… nanobots that can rebuild hardware but can’t repair dents and scratches… haha.

Huragok maybe?

What Huragok and where? There were none on the Forward Unto Dawn.
