Chief's last name

Do you think there’s a reason that his last name is inked out?

Probably the same reason we will never see his face.

The player identifying themselves as Chief has been incorporated into all of his physical appearances, that being said I do think it should be revealed at some point but only when Chief discovers his humanity.

Which i absolutely hate it traps the character and they can never develop into anything real.

We should eventually learn the last name of John because last names mean a lot to a person and if John were to retire without us knowing his last name, I bet there will be a bit of controversy.

Funny, I was just wondering about this a few days ago…

I agree. We have some vague background on him from fall of reach, but that’s about it. The least they could do is reveal his last name.

I think when the time is right, we’ll finally learn his last name as well as see his face.

John’s in the awkward spot where he’s just developed enough so that you can’t identify with him but he’s not developed to the point where he’s a good character.

343 needs to commit one way or the other and i really think actually turning him into a character is a far better way of handling it.

His name is John Cena.

John War

It’s kind of teased during Halo 5, when he meets the Warden for the first time. I don’t know when we’ll know it, but the “John = you” thing has been discarded for quite a while. Since we’ve learned Blue Team’s last names, I suppose it’ll be the same for John at some point in the future…

What?

I agree with you, how the story is playing out he’s slowly discovering his humanity with halo 4 being called by his name. Cortana will be the one responsible for him discovering his humanity I think.

So how exactly can an abusive, psychotic AI with a sick obsession with him do that?

If anything the question of his own humanity will have to be solved (and should be) by the Chief himself. Hopefully with the help and support of people who actually care about him - such as his fellow Spartans and people like Lasky.

Because the women he more or less thinks of as his Mother is also an abusive, psychotic individual with a sick obsession with John/her spartans.

And shes turning frailer and frailer every day…

Then you clearly don’t understand the dynamic of Master Chief and Cortana.

I understand it just fine, thank you very much.
But go ahead - explain to me how outright lying to someone, gaslighting/manipulating them into furthering your own goals, trying to kill their family, forcefully restraining them and and attempting to keep them prisoner against their will, all on top of murdering millions of innocent civilians without giving a single care, is not abusive, obsessive, or psychotic.
