Related: In my last XCOM run, I named all my soldiers after SPARTAN-IIs.
John-117 was the chosen one and had to sacrifice himself at the end of the game. I think my XCOM game was predicting Halo 6. But seriously. This is something I think about a lot. It’d be a sad but hopeful ending.
I wouldn’t doubt him dying in Halo 5. Some might view that as way too early, but the way I see it, Chief and Cortana aren’t the true end results of the Librarian’s plan. We see the Spartans starting to sift into the general population, it won’t be too long before AIs are made with live brain tissue, likely why the Composer was left intact for humanity to find.
Perhaps Halo 5 will mark the time that Chief passes the torch to a new generation, hopefully Spartan Thorne.

I’d say that they will probably be reluctant to start fiddling with something that vaporised so many people so quickly. Though I could be wrong with the 'Murica outlook the UNSC appears to be having at the moment.
I’m not sure whether you’re hinting at later on in your script there, actually. SPOILERS?

Halsey seemed to find the Composer interesting in one of those hidden easter eggs on Composer, the level. Although I’m sure the UNSC would sooner use it as a weapon than as something beneficial to mankind.

Don’t worry about that. I doubt I could kill the Chief and so many ideas I have are in constant flux. Although I will give a brief sneak peek for anyone interested, a certain shield installation is coming up soon. That’s it.

I was thinking that they would be tempted to use it against the Covenant, does it work on them? And insurrectionists. And deserters. And dissenters. And puppies.

The Halos work on all life, I’m sure the Composer could.

At the very least it works on Forerunners and Humans, but not the Didact or Chief.

I think the ending of 6 will be somewhat (DARK KNIGHT RISES SPOILER) like the dark knight rises, where it is left to us to wonder if he is alive or not. But who knows, it will be a very epic game, I’m sure.

Eh… I really hope not. Thorne’s too bland and unassuming; given, the Chief is rather bland as well, but he’s starting to get that emotional development through the death of Cortana and such, and the emotion that he’s showing now, to me, makes him a very interesting character in how he’ll handle it later on, and considering he’s never really had such an emotional blow before.
Thorne, on the other hand… all we know about him is that his family died in New Phoenix. Other than that he’s just a sympathetic Spartan IV made to be likeable in contrast to the other Spartan IVs by being nice to a crowd-favorite character when no one else is and not talking a lot. So… I’d prefer Chief to carry on through Halo 6 at least, and leave other characters for spin-offs.

Enough with the Spartan Thorne theory, Master chief petty officer Spartan John-117 will stay till the end of the trilogy!

I don’t want him to die. And I don’t think many others do either (even if they say they want him to die).
A lot of people were upset with Shepard dieing in ME3 (no, I’m not going into detail). A lot of people felt that his/her death meant there was nothing else. Nothing afterwards. Like, what was the point of winning if neither the character nor the player can’t celebrate it?
Yes, you get the very sad feeling of someone you’ve learned to care about over the past so many years has died, but overall, there is more dissatisfaction and anger than “good” sadness.
Also, if John goes out with a bang, does an amazing sacrifice, or whatever, it will still never be good enough to the fans.

I don’t see how Spartan Thorne becoming the central character some time soon is any less valid than just claiming Chief is going to be in it for the long haul. Neither of us knows what is going to happen. I mean, if Thorne wasn’t meant to be relevant, I’m not sure why 343i would focus pretty heavily on him.
Theories don’t go away just because you don’t like them, I am sorry to say.

The Reclaimer Trilogy is Chief’s story. After Halo 6, Chief shouldn’t be in any other games. What will happen to him at the end of the story is truly unknown, but he will probably die to save humanity.
