I was playing though campaign again when I noticed that chief’s armor doesn’t look like mark VI, it looks more like Reaper. Now I haven’t unlocked the Mark VI armor yet, but if the Gen 1 version of it looks like the Gen 2 version, then it seems like Chief isn’t sporting all Mark VI. Has anyone else noticed this?

its is known as the GEN 2 Mk VI MOD 0- a modified Mk VI variant for the Spartan II physiology.

Its apparently called Mk. VI C varient in halo 4, but it was still gen 1. Assuming this is now Mk. VI C gen 2.

You all need to unlock Reaper Armour and look at it then come back here and discuss it rather than quoting what model number he’s wearing.
On topic: yes OP I agree, Reaper looks almost identical to Chiefs campaign suit.
For Halo 4 they wanted to introduce GEN 2 Mjolnir variants but couldn’t just give the Chief new armor due to being frozen and standed in space and stuff. So they just had it be an “artistic shift” in that game. But for Halo 5 they just threw that out and, as stated above, gave him a modded Mark VI/GEN. 2. Would really love to have that armor be included for MP. It’s my favorite Chief armor followed by the Mark V.

There’s nothing vague about it, they’re almost identical besides the back.
As a side questiom to everyone, IF you could unlock cheifs armor in MM, a tecon 2.0 if you were around for recon in 3, how would you want it unlocked
Id like it beat 1-5 solo legendary odst included, obtain all collectibles in halo 5 (more a time thing than skill like the last) and a few new chivos in 5 and modify some campaign chivos from mcc to vidmasters. Make them similar to annual and de ja vu.
Okay, I’m happy I’m not the only one who thinks it looks like Reaper. But where did this modified version of Mark VI show up? I’m gonna assume in one of the books

He’s wearing Mk VI. There was even a canon fodder that told all of the teams armors. His: Mk VI [Gen2]. It was upgraded to the Gen2 platform after Halo 4.
