I think it looks great. The only changes I would make would be to tune down the green a small notch, make it a tad bit darker and less Boogery green, but also make it look grittier (at least later in the game, I realise it’s new armor AKA GEN 3 !!)
Also, removing the 117 from the chestplate would be good, it’s a bit tacky. Nonetheless, it looks fantastic!
Not the biggest fan of it. But then again, I don’t love the armour it’s based off (Halo Legends: The Package, and Forward Unto Dawn), so I’m bias.
I agree with removing the 117 though, or to at least move it to somewhere less obvious, i.e. his shoulder plate.
I too love the new armour, I have been a critic of the newer styles for ages so to see this return to form is fantastic as the chief now looks like him again.
Looks like a cross of the suit from The Package and H2A. I agree with OP that a slightly more matte metal dark green and removing the 117 would look a tad better but I would be nitpicking.
Something really bothering me though is the size of the arms relative to the chest plate. They seem too small in comparison. When viewing scenes of chief from the back the massive size of the chest plate becomes apparent.
I don’t know if its some weird perspective issue / FOV making his arms look tiny and chest huge but maybe you can relate with seeing this wallpaper screenshot.
I feel like this is why I have been seeing mixed reactions to chiefs size.
I agree on removing the 117, just make it braille like the 4/5 armor. I don’t really see an issue with the color of green, maybe a little darker like the E3 2018 trailer, but I think it it fine overall. It looks like the same color as in-game H2A chief.
As for his arms being small, I think it’s just the angle. He looked fine when the pilot was rebooting chiefs suit.
I really love it, and am torn on the colour because it’s highly subjective, but I think I’d prefer a tiny bit more of a drab, it seems slightly too vibrant amongst the rest of the scene though Chief has always been a little like that.
While I have no issues with the armor style. Looks like his original Mark IV from when he was a teenager, think Halo Forward Unto Dawn. I agree the green is way to bright, and the bold white 117 needs to go. But also, he looked a little cartoony, like Mega Blocks/Lego, Halo Legends. I don’t know, maybe it was the color.
But here is something that had me thinking. E3 2018’s trailer, his armor looked very sleek. And obviously this armor is the Mark IV. I wonder if we will be able to change John’s armor.
That would be awesome.
That said the trailer was awesome, except his armor made him looked out of place in the gorgeous cinematic trailer
Glad to see someone on here being positive and actually praising the armor for the most part. I agree with most people that the shape and plating is near perfect- very faithful to halo 2 and 3. The color could be a shade darker, and one thing that looks kind of weird is that at his arm sockets, there seems to be this odd kind of material. Many of you will read this upcoming analogy and think “what the hell is he talking about,” but just imagine the rings of a vacuum cleaner hose, or the stretchy look of the arms on the really old space suits from the 70’s. It makes him look like an action figure where it’s super obvious that his joints were kind of assembled into the body. Ugh it would really make me feel better if I could illustrate it better and someone knew what I was talking about here.
I can take or leave the 117.
Can’t wait to see the Mark V version of this art style in multiplayer.
This is the thread that should be getting more attention right now because even though you have your fair criticisms you state in your title how great the armor design is!
Personally, I wouldn’t change a thing about the armor! I really do believe its the best armor he’s had on ever by far!
I love all of it the only thing I would say change if I had to is not as thick shoulder pads and and darken the green but I would have no complaint at all if it stayed this way. Im definitely someone who prefers pre H4 armor (the only one I liked post was the wold one that came from waypoint in h4)

I see the chest thing to. it creates buzz lightyear vibes. :0)
these are some ideas i compiled:
- the suits green color could be a litle less blueish and more beige
- The shield emitters are missing
- the plates could have a little more space between them to better show the spartans agility (especialy at the hip and shoulder) (
the buffness is fine, only the plates look to wide)(the chest/back plate is the biggest offender, second are the thighs)
- The plates could be a little bit more seperated from the undersuit (like in reach, not as much as in 4/5)
- the undersuit could use some gen 2 influences, mainly for the stomach region and on the shoulders ( to show the hybrid origin
of gen 3)
