Well after seeing the chiefs updated armor in Halo 2 Anniversary it reminded me of all the controversy surrounding the armor changes that took place in halo 4. I was wondering if you guys as the community have grown accustomed to chiefs new armor or would like the more updated version of halo 2-3 armor? Personally I would like chiefs old armor to come back. It looks so nice being updated. Just not a fan of space diapers…
I’ve always preferred his newer armor.
The removal of the “Space diaper” makes it much more fitting in this decade. I’m sure that chief’s armor would be redesigned again in the next few years but like any other redesigns I’ll take it.
The Shoulder pads needs tweaking though.
I prefer his new armor, Chief looks like a walking tank. lol
Armour makes no difference, it’s the art style associated with it. Which is why I prefer Reachs art style.
the shoulders and chest piece kinda bug me on the new armor but its not bad, i do prefer the mark vi and mark v though
I like mark six as shown in Halo 3.
Actually Halo 3’s art direction with armor just feels best in my view.
Halo 3 Mark VI looks better in my opinion.
I like Chief’s armor in Halo 4, but I just wish that 343 would have given a better reason for the change in its design. I don’t care what sort of -Yoink- they come up with, but the armor that Chief went into cryo with is not the same armor that he comes out with, which still kinda bugs me.
Would it have been that hard to have his armor look like Halo 2/3 Mark VI at the beginning, and then give him the upgraded armor at some point later in the story?
I don’t like the new armor at all, I think he looks like a guy with pots and pans stuck to him like some kind of Tinman made of junk.
But does his armor fit with the scenes and general feel that 343 are going for? Yep.
I’ve said it in a thread before but Halo 2-3’s Chief was cartoony, there’s no way I could’ve taken the Didact awakening scene seriously if Chief was wearing his classic armor.
The series has moved in a different direction and since Halo 5 is meant to be darker than the last few games I’d say the armor suits him pretty well.
His Mk VI is most certainly one of his most iconic looks, but I do love the detail in his new armor. Even though I loved his old shoulders, I understand his new shoulders and the freedom of movement that they offer compared to the old ones. My one, and only, complaint about the new armor is the center -Yoink!-. The chest appearance of the old Mk VI was a lot more aesthetically pleasing than the weird center -Yoink!- on the redesign that, for some reason, has a massive chunk of the front of it made out of undersuit material and not ceramic plating. That part really bugs me. But I love everything else. The hands, forearms, legs, and especially the helmet. Everything looks great
I like the new armor. It makes him look more like a walking tank, like SPARTAN-IIs are supposed to look. The old armor style seems way too thin now, IMO.
I’ve always loved his new armour, especially since they showed us the final design. Honestly, it’s one of the very few armour sets that 343i created that I really like, and is on par with what Bungie has created.
Of course, the old armour is great, and I quite look forward to seeing it in action once more.
The Halo 4 armor looks the best to me. Makes him look like a supersoldier. The earlier armors were a bit slim.
I don’t like the shoulders that much but they kinda fit into the rest of the armor.
I think we need Chief’s Destiny codpiece back.
The only thing I don’t like about his armor is the thing I dislike about all Halo 4 armor: No gut protection.
If his stomach was armored, it would be great IMO.

I like his new helmet more than the old one but thats it. Though his new helmet wouldn’t fit on his old armor, so it’s fine how it is i guess
I don’t think the issue was his Armor change but there was no real reason. Or one that made sense to me.
For Halo 4 343 could have simply had Chief wear his H3 armor for a portion of the game and change it at some point.
The part where The Librarian gives Chief whatever she gave him would have been the perfect part to change his appearance. Just say some sci fi mumbo jumbo like "I’ve also advanced your armor with Forerunner blah blah blah ".
As much as I like the original trilogy over Halo Reach and Halo4 I must say Chief’s new armor is cool. Looks unique and badass.
343 should’ve handled it better though.
Massive fan of chiefs new armour, take nothing away from mark v and mark vi but the new bulky “walking tank” look is my favourite.
But one think i still dont get… How did he acquire his mark vii armour?
I for one love the Halo 4 Mk VI armor, but that’s mostly because the Chief is now bulkier-looking and proportionally sized human-being. MC had awkwardly long legs and a skinny profile in Halo 2/3, and it definitely needed a more detailed update.
That being said, I don’t like like 2 things about it. First the look of the H4 shoulder armor is crap. The upside-down triangle shape seems really impractical, because it wouldn’t allow for the proper range of motion. Secondly, the canon behind why his armor changed wasn’t my cup of tea either.
