My edit: Halo Infinite Master Chief color correction alternative - Imgur
Over on Reddit, I and others were suggesting color correction alternatives for chief’s armor in the trailer.
For reference on photshop in the raw filter, I lowered the green luminance by -50 and the saturation -45 and texture +25. I’m sure there is still a lot of work being done on the color correction and lighting but I’d like to give my feedback. To me, the original color in the trailer seems a bit too artificial and I think my changes help mitigate this issue.
OP’s Version - Other’s Version - Another’s VersionWhile I haven’t made up my mind about the colour yet, because it hasn’t been stated to be final, I do like your version. Best of both worlds.
Your edit is fine, but the first one from Reddit misses the point (or at least a lot of the commenters do; the creator’s intention might’ve just been for fun). The new armor isn’t supposed to just be a recreation of the Halo 3 MK VI, and I think 343 made the right choice by trying something a bit different with the classic look.
I don’t mind your edit but I have no qualms with the look they chose in this trailer as I generally like brighter colors and its not like he hasn’t had this shade of green before.

Exactly, everyone is screaming “old armor!” So they do and they hate it…

Yeah, of course you can’t please everyone, and whichever party isn’t happy is going to be the one to speak up over the others no matter how small or big they may be.
I agree, the color correction hugely favors the ““gritty”” look people always complained about what was lacking in the visuals. Just reverting the art style to please the fans but keeping the colors too bright it will still look like plastic.
I would have to say, I think the color correction is quite nice. The bright army green color from the trailer is cool, but I wish it was a bit darker and more metallic.
This new color correction is perfect and favors the ““gritty”” look people always complained about in this forums. It kinda shows that reverting the art style back, but keeping the plastic textures makes no difference at all. That was the only problem I see in Halo 5 art style, bit not addressed by 343 at least from what we saw until now.
While I enjoyed the trailer, the Mark IV with the white 117 brothers me. Why would he be wearing his armor from when he was a teenager?
I prefer the braille, and darker olive drab green.
Also, in the original E3 trailer for Halo Infinite his armor looked sleeker, than this Mark IV we seen at yesterdays E3… Perhaps we can change John’s armor? That would be cool.
I dislike the bright green armor. It looked to cartoony, like Halo Legends. No thank you. I prefer stunning graphics in my Halo. Halo has always been graphically pleasing when they released.
I think the color green is fine. People say it looks like Plastic, but painted metal can have the same bright and colorful look to it. I do agree the white 117 is a bit strange to look at. I think 343 should just add it in braille like the 4/5 armor.
While color is certainly a problem I feel that the texture of the suit is one of the glaring problems. The suit is fabulous and clean; no random braile this, no weird bits that no drooping shoulder armor, but its too clean for a spartan who just came out of a hellish fight that blew off a chunk of a halo ring. Some metallic gloss with scratches would help display that battle better. If chief just got this new suit like in Halo 2 it would be pretty good, but it needs just a bit more of a battle worn feel.
i only have some minor issues with chiefs new armor.
the suits green color could be a litle less blueish and more beige
The shield emitters are missing
the plates could have a little more space between them to better show the spartans agility ( the buffness is fine, only the plates look to wide)
the undersuit could use some gen 2 influences, mainly for the stomach region and on the shoulders ( to show the hybrid origin of gen 3)
and the game needs to reduce gamma by 10% and increase contrast and warm white by 10% this makes the lighting more realistic. a few tweaks in the levels and color hues more, and maybe a cheap visual filter, and these lighting changes bring the graphics close to H2A cutscene epic.
The changed lighting and slightly changed color give awsome results
