Chief wants out of the Spartan program?

Watching Halo:Nightfall and the part where Locke talks about Randall wanting out the Spartan program and how that’s not supposed to be possible. I wonder if that’s setting up why the Chief has gone AWOL or why they think Chief has gone AWOL? He wants out and the UNSC won’t let him?

Doubt it. Hood told him to take some time off, he just continued going on missions. Whatever cheif is doing its linked to saveing the galaxy, again

However it’s an interesting topic, because Halsey made the Spartan-II and she always planned for her Spartans to have a civilian life at some point. I believe she wouldn’t have tried to take Randall back, for sure she didn’t allow to “decommission” him or revert the augmentations. So it would be interesting to understand who in ONI did this.
Locke’s statement is quite false, you can leave the Spartan program, if you are not convinced anymore, as full indoctrination is required. There are examples of this.

Chief is definitely not wanting out of the program, Escalation seems to give the impression that his disapearance is caused during one of his missions he somehow assigned himself to while he was supposed to be getting R&R.

Actually maybe he is, or will be. Maybe he’s looking for a ‘live’ Cortana in a way, then hell retire from unsc service???

Or maybe he just wanted to kill something? Maybe he got bored so he left.
