So call me crazy, but ever since Halsey was introduced in the games, I’ve always had this nagging thought in the back of my head that Halsey is actually John’s mother or aunt or something. She’s always expressed a much greater interest and devotion to John than she has to any other Spartans.
This is evidenced in the Halo 4 prologue when she gets a bit emotional saying “his file reads missing in action” when confronted about John’s death by the interrogator. She has that sense of denial that comes with the grieving process.
In Spartan Ops, she gets all huffy and slaps Lasky when she finds out that Chief is still alive exclaiming “nobody told me he was alive!”
I’ve always found her attachment to him odd an inexplicable. Maybe they have a deeper connection that goes beyond the kidnapper/kidnapped relationship she has with every Spartan II.
I’d be interested to hear other people’s thoughts on the matter.

You can gain more details about their relation by reading “Halo: The Fall of Reach”. In there it explains how she became closer to him than other Spartans. If anything you could definitely say that John was her “favorite”, and I think the other Spartans believed this to be true as well.

I’m totally agree.
Otherwise - I think - Chief is special in Halsey eye and that’s why she is act like Chief was her son.

Yup. Also should just read Fall of Reach generally since it’s a great book, still probably the best in the series (IMO, of course).
Well I mean … wait a minute guys. In the opening of Halo 4, when we see John in that weird bed/box thingy as a kid and it zooms in on his face, we see blue eyes and freckles and the camera immediately snaps to Halsey who looks like an old lady version of that same face. That always kind of bugged me.
No. TFoR indicates no sort of previous relation whatsoever.
Thanks guys. The Fall of Reach is one of the few EU materials I haven’t read, but now I’ll definitely check it out due to everyone’s high praise. You’d have no idea of their relationship based solely on the games.
