I know this is probably a very old, and dumb question, but how did Chief survive the firing of the Halo at Installation 00?
He went through the portal, but the portal collapsed and snapped FUD in half.
The Dawn made it through the Portal right as the Halo radiation hit it. So he survived the Halo, but the stress on the portal cut the Dawn in half.
