In the newest GI video, Josh Holmes talks about Chief as a character. Holmes says that in Halo 4 they began exploring Chief as a Human and seeing more of his personality. Yet Holmes says that Locke is going to be looking at Chief, being an outside perspective to observe him. This may just be me, but it kind of sounds like Chief himself won’t be going through character development. I could be misinterpreting what he is saying. Bonnie and Frankie have said that this game is going to be dealing with him going through some change as a character, with Bonnie saying him questioning his loyalties and Frankie said in the first GI video that it will deal with him dealing with loss. What do you think of this?
It’s character development through the eyes of another character …I think…
I believe he meant that you can only see so much of the Chief’s character and it’s development through his perspective. In order to get more insight into him and see how things develop for him, they are stating that it is important to see him through more than one lens. Other characters’ perspectives of the Chief, his experiences, and his actions offer new insights into his character.

^This. The Master Chief can only develop so much from his own perspective. And of course, they still want him to at least minimally be a vessel for the player even if he is his own character. So they intend to do a lot of the character development externally through the viewpoint of Locke when you aren’t playing as Chief.

So the question is, how much development will he go through from his perspective?
Could it be where Chief is going to develop and we see it from his perspective as well as Locke studying Chief and trying to figure out what Chief is going through. I don’t want them to tell us to go through, but for us to see Chief go through his change.
Will it be emotional? Will it be meaningful? Will it have substance and be entertaining? Those are some key points I would like to know and hope that each one is a yes.

Maybe Locke is going to be looking into Chief’s past to get players to understand what Chief has been through (lore fans will know of course). Then he’ll be putting together why Chief is doing what he’s doing while we’ll see Chief going through some development from his perspective.
