Chief, man, I think it's time to pick another girl

I’ve played through Halo 4’s campaign about 4 times, and the same goes for 5. Once Master Chief Collection came out I played all the campaigns through that, too. And I’ve recognized that a big part of Halo is this love story between Chief and Cortana; but if I could offer John a little advice I’d say,

Master Chief, my friend, I think it’s time you move on and pick another girl, bro.

It’s kind of a sweet story, sure. Master Chief is this genetically modified super soldier who is supposed to be a machine. But you find that he really does have emotion and his AI partner has grown on him over the last…I don’t know…4 times he’s saved the world.
But here’s the problem. She’s an AI. She was one of the Created. He’s a human and so that relationship can’t really work. Nothing can really…happen. Ahem sorry this is awkward.

Master Chief has plenty of other options, he grew up with Linda and Kelly, they’re human. I mean who would not want to be with THE MASTER CHIEF. So man, this is sweet and all, but I think it’s time to move on.

P.S. Your girlfriend is now pure evil. Did I forget to mention that?

I’d like to agree with you, but at the same time I highly doubt that the chief is in a position to handle the idea of a new girl… especially in the middle of yet another war…

I don’t think of it as that kind of love. She was in his head… Kinda part of him… So it’s like if you lost a hand or some other body part… You would miss it when it’s gone.

This^

Chief never was in love with her, it was a deep bond almost like a best friend after years of being alone with them.

Remember, chief’s a soldier, through and through. He never was able to experience growing up, falling in love, makeing friends… Johnson, Cortana, kelly, and the other spartans (even Arbiter) were all chief had as close friends, and he lost quite a few of them. They were his only ties to what we call a relationship. (Even they were all kinda forced on him)

I think 343 portrays it a little odd, but at the same time it was a very emotional portrail that could easily be interpreted as a more, deep love relationship.

Cortana is a babe tho

And let’s be honest, Chief doesn’t have the best social skills and he found a girl who likes him. Even if she is absolutely nuts, it’s probably the best he’s gonna manage.

When you’ve been with someone for more than 10 years (not talking game time) If they turn to the dark side, you just don’t give up on them.

Dr. Halsey can just scream everything in his ear instead, it’ll be as it nothing changed!

Dibs.

Y’all can back off.

-Yoink!-, another chance missed. One day Chief, one day :’(

Cortana definitely takes “crazy ex-girlfriend” to a whole another level. Forget angry texts and trashing your stuff, she’s after the entire galaxy!

In all seriousness, I expected H5 to explore how Chief was coping with the loss of Cortana. Especially since at the end of H4, it led you to believe that he didn’t come out of it okay. However to me in H5 Chief seemed fine, and it was just BAU. I just thought there’d be more conflict between Chief and others (Blue Team/Locke/UNSC) on trying to convince him that she’s gone.

I was hoping you would show up for that very reason. I read this and was thinking “How can I get this to Snicker?”

Cortana as the “crazy ex” isn’t even the worst I’ve seen. Though you do make a fair point, she is definitely in the top 3.

I was hoping Cortana stayed dead and the vision was just some Forerunner manipulation.

Umm, Chief wasn’t really in love. I can see the concept why some people would think that but they weren’t in love. They were close friends that were only together for like less then a year. But even if he somehow gets off being a soldier, the best thing he can do is to meet his old friends he had on his home planet, If he does meet one of them they can help his humanity as they had their childhood life and Chief did not.

Imagine another voice in your head telling you all the information you ever needed. All the answers to Tuesday’s math test? How to bake a cake? Offer advice on for literally anything?

I’m sure you would miss that kind of power too. To Chief, Cortana was like a best friend that new everything and lived in you head.

I dont think you quite understand the story quite perfectly…
That’s not how it is…

Ha maybe not but a good light hearted comical thread is good for the forums, right?

I agree.
