The chief is a hero, a legend, an icon and a symbol to many but he is not the key to the survival of the Halo franchise. I have seen so many threads saying that if the Chief dies or if Locke becomes a main character then Halo is dead. I just want to say that in the end it will not be 343 who destroys Halo it will be the fans, don’t get me wrong I hate some of the stuff that 343 do but they honestly do more good than bad and have done more for the franchise than Bungie ever have.
I also know that a large majority of those who like chief didn’t even know his backstory till hunt the truth came out. I mention this because most people cant be asked to read or look up summaries of the books, but Hunt the Truth became a piece of expanded universe that the very vast majority of players grew to love. Most people wouldn’t of given a dam about theses characters before Hunt the Truth but now like the Chief they are icons and in the case of many Ben is a Hero also.
I’m not asking that you read the books or become keen on Halo lore, what I am asking as one Halo fan to all of you is to realise that Halo still has a lot more to offer everyone, Reach and ODST proved this without having Master chief, Hunt the Truth told a story about Chief without him even appearing which is also the point of Locke’s missions.
So please just try and keep an open mind about Halos future, if you don’t want to stick around after Chief dies or goes MIA or whatever that’s fine but don’t bring Halo down with you when you leave.

I think that if Chief were to be taken out of the games the best alternative would be to let players create their own spartan for whatever missions are in a “Chiefless” game. Any character created to take Chief’s place won’t live up to the role unless it’s a character the player gets to create.

Your wrong, Halo is all about the MC! The spin off games are good but everyone gets hyped about MC, without him the franchise is gone, the fan base will vanish.
Also 343 won’t kill him, he’s the Cheif they aren’t stupid. They are a company that has to make money and they know killing him would ruin their profits on Halo 6 or 7 or 8 ect…

I don’t think people are saying that Chief needs to be in a Halo game as much as they’re saying Locke is kind of a jerk.

But Locke has only two appearances, Nightfall I understand completely but Halo 5 hasn’t even come out yet.
I think it would do ok without him if that did happen, but it would not be the same.

That’s something I forgot to mention, its obvious no character will ever replace the chief but that in itself doesn’t make them a bad character either.

Lol what? He maybe the face of Halo, but he is not Halo. Thats like complaining that Star Wars isn’t always about the Skywalkers.

Definitely not the same but we wont know till it happens, if it happens.
You can easily have spin off games, but getting rid of Chief all together would be awful, if you want halo with out the Master chief go back to the CoD forums.

But all 3 of those games were successful.
Wars is getting a sequel.
ODST was added to MCC due to massive demand.
Reach still has a lot of demand to be added to MCC too, sadly hasn’t happened yet.

Basically this if your able to create your own character to replace an idol that is looked up to its a better alternative because it develops your own adventure within the Halo universe. Giving the mantle to some other spartan we could care less about is just meh. Just like some people have said imagine a Mario game main series without Mario. Megaman without the actual megaman, Legend of Zelda without Link instead you play as Zelda etc.

Side stories that would not have happened without the main story of 117.
If 343 wants to do stories about some one else they can, just call them Halo Oni Secret Missions or whatever.
Leave the main Halo game to 117.
It should be like Marvel movies. Avengers in the center plot and all others are side stories building up to the next Avengers movie.
