Remember in the 11.06.13 Bulletin: https://blogs.halowaypoint.com/Headlines/post/2013/11/06/The-Halo-Bulletin-11613.aspx …
“Not only is Halo 4 still the only thing on my brain (and by only thing, I mean one of two things, the other having something to do with cloaked super soldiers and sand-covered creatures),…” Bravo
We thought Master Chief was going rogue from the UNSC but I think he is masking his appearance (like Franky said) from this sand-covered creatures. I am wondering what this sand-coverted creatures are? John could also be hiding from this Forerunner “bird” but creatures is plural and there was only one in the teaser so…
I wouldn’t think about this too literally. Remember the trailer we saw was more of an art-house piece to announce yes, the Master Chief will be on the Xbox one. It does not set up the details of the next game (similar to the Believe trailers for Halo 3) but rather the tone and basic visual themes as they can be interpreted, not gathered from, the trailer. The chief’s gone rogue, he’s got a poncho, and there’s forerunner AI constructs somewhere where we haven’t been before. That’s about all we can possibly say. So until we get some real, meaty details I wouldn’t try speculating on just what the plural creatures signifies, if anything at all (my guess is that they were just referring again to the bird construct. Would be cool if they introduced a new alien species completely unrelated to flood, covenant, forerunner just to have as a new threat on certain worlds but 343’s going to need to do quite a bit more signaling in that direction before I put it as anything more than wild fantasy.)
Clearly, he was referring to the trailer rather than anything that may or may not appear in the game. As for “creatures” being plural, I wouldn’t take that as evidence for anything, especially considering “cloaked supersoldiers” is also plural. It’s just a way to refer to the trailer ambiguously, and I don’t think you can gleam any more details about the game than what you already saw in the teaser.
Well “cloaked supersoldiers” could also mean more spartans are on that location hiding from more “sand-coverted creatures”. I understand your point of view, but why should chief masking his appearance from the UNSC. The location was compliteley desserted and I think john was quite alone. Why should he hide there? I dont think he is hiding from the UNSC and I dont think he is hiding from that “bird” because it looked like he was looking for it and found it. (Sorry for my bad english)

Whoever said he was hiding from the UNSC? For all we know he could be using the cloak as camouflage. Think about it, he’s in a sandy area, and the rags definitely do match the environment he is in. Anyway, consider the Halo 3 trailer, where Chief after shielding himself from a plasma blast, runs and dives into hundreds of wraiths. Does he do this in the campaign? Not at all. So why should this be any different? This is a TEASER. Its not even a concrete scenario of what happens in the game, nor is it even a snippet of a cutscene. Its meant to be symbolic by nature and indirectly hint to you what may/may not be happening at that particular point in time. That is all.

Well Franky said he was masking his appearance. From whom? we dont know (a LOT of people think from the UNSC/ONI)… I agree on the rest of your post. It is just a teaser…
Maybe the whole masking his appearance thing was a reference to him being covered in the trailer so the audience wouldn’t know who he was until the cloak’s hood came off.
> Maybe the whole masking his appearance thing was a reference to him being covered in the trailer so the audience wouldn’t know who he was until the cloak’s hood came off.
Or it’s to keep sand from getting into those annoying nooks and crannies. Remember what erosion can do, a lone guy isn’t going to fair well against a force punishing enough to level whole mountain ranges (with time but with a highly technological suit it’s not going to take much sand-blasting before something important goes). That is unless he can find some sort of simple, erosion resistant, material to take the worst of it, like a poncho!

>Multi-billion dollar suit of armor with force-multiplying circuitry and components, energy shielding and high-tech computer systems.

Money=/=Durability. The F22 stealth fighter is a multi-billion dollar aircraft with force-multiplying payloads and yet rain dissolves it’s outer coating. Granted the chief is probably built more durable in the Halo fictional universe but there are technological limits which nature can easily surpass. It’s nice to see 343 recognizing that rather than just going with the usual “Elementary physics matters not, he’s a power ranger!”

Man, those suits shot out sparks with a slight slap.
> Man, those suits shot out sparks with a slight slap.
Yes but you never saw them getting grass stains. Sparks are just part of the design, intended to give the bad guys something to feel good about so they keep coming back on the fools hope that they could actually win (thus justifying Zordon’s surely massive budget which let’s just say he isn’t spending on recruiting.)
The real sign of the invincible space magic is the fact that nothing else in the universe, besides the more showy elements, could touch them. It makes the fiction a bit more aloof, which again is why I appreciate 343’s practically-minded fashion sense.

His suit’s power could be low, and he is using the cloak like a tarp on a car that is parked outside. Like it says in the quote above, he doesn’t want the suit eroded. Anyways, he would much rather wear out a poncho than a multi-billion dollar suit.

Camouflage IS a form of masking appearance. But then, this is just speculation, so who knows? Maybe ONI feels that they can’t trust him anymore so they order his execution as well? Maybe he hears of Halsey’s attempted assassination, so he leaves to try and rescue her? Honestly, i actually like this whole ‘ONI is an evil tyrant’ business. Wouldn’t mind seeing chief fight off other spartans, without having to betray your allies.
Makes you wonder, if he is indeed Rogue, he must of stole a ship or has an ally or two. Or three.
> Makes you wonder, if he is indeed Rogue, he must of stole a ship or has an ally or two. Or three.
The only allies he needs is a pair of vice-like arms and a marine pilot who doesn’t know how to take one for the team.

You’re assuming that sand-blasting an extremely advanced suit made out of high-grade Titanium alloy from 500 years in the future would have a substantial effect.
If being hit by multiple Hunter beams simultaneously didn’t heavily damage the suit and sand did, then we would have a serious issue with logic on our hands.
I like to take these things and see what they resemble more than what they show.
Don’t quote me on saying one thing which Halofollower said but…
“Master Chief had curled and gripped his fist, similar to in Halo 4 when he got back up and many more times.” I believe that this symbolizes hope for something. The Master Chief in a Poncho in the sand… he is confirmed to be hiding from something, however the sand and area look similar to the Ark, although this isn’t likely. The 'flying creature" may actually be from in-game and also it may symbolize the Didact and the Forerunners “rising up again” not to mention that it is coloured like a Promethean…
This is what I take on the Teaser…

Sand could MAYBE pierce his armour’s fibres and gaps, causing his suit to malfunction and/or at the same time it would corrode his suit. I personally think this has something to do more with symbolism however.
That’s enough posting for me today!
I’ll just stick around for the new Spartan’s birth, AStreamOfCream!

He has energy shields, and fancy space kevlar underneath.
