Locke is a poor replacement for Chief, if they do kill off John then they’ll need a better character than that.

From what I’ve seen from the mission descriptions, the chance of Chief or any of the main 8 dying is astronomically low, unless it happens on the last mission.
they cant kill chief yet they have one more game to make
If the Chief dies, it will doing something to save humanity, not because Locke killed him. Then, Locke will take the mantle and carry on with his legacy. Is not what I want, but it would be a great way for the Chief to go.

I am most likely going to get a lot of flack for this but i wouldn’t mind them killing off the master chief they shouldn’t have brought him back to begin with the way halo 3 ended was perfect he was a hero he saved the galaxy then was just gone,and the new generation of Spartans would pick up his legacy but all that was ruined imo.Halo 5 is 343’s chance to branch out of this so called “no halo without 117” phase with locke and fire team Osiris being the way to do that…
If chief dies saving humanity I would be okay with that. But I really can’t part ways with him yet. I certainly can’t get over him and move on to Locke. Sorry, just my thoughts.

I blame Ripley Scott. He totally derailed it. He totally used his “Generic plot B” theme and it led to another generic Ripley movie.
What should have been done was a movie to played to each characters strengths. Like a Zero Dark Thirty style movie.
After seeing the deeper plot with all the side story missions. There was a deep plot to it that went nowhere.
What should have happened was that it should have been 2 stories where you had Locke and his team acting like CIA deep operatives who went into the Underworld hunting down the mastermind of the attack. While at the same time. Randall and his men along with one or two of Locke’s agents go to the Halo shard and conduct a raid on a large mining operation and shut it down.
Then Locke and Randall’s team link up and take down the Mastrermind and Randall sacrifices himself going hand to hand with a elite zealot. Going out like Emile or Noble 6 from Halo: Reach while trying to protect Locke who is trying to disarm a WMD that was active to kill the whole UNSC task force
