I agree with the statement that for Locke to be the main character the Chief does not have to die, but to not treat him as a staged replacement I think could be werd when the MC dies. But in turn that could mean that the character could be someone else (maybe more interesting than Locke). Great post.
I can see Chief going at the end of this trilogy, and I’ll be okay with it as long as they conclude his story in a great way.
But as for Locke being the new face of Halo? No way. At all. He’s too much of a tryhard and has the emotional range of a brick. Even Chief, who’s been a man of few words for quite a long time, has him beat by far. I just find Locke to be an absolutely flat and boring character. I would not buy a Halo game with him as the main character, maybe a different character yes, but not Locke.
Until then, though. I’m going to enjoy my time with Halo and the Master Chief.

I don’t think they’ll kill of the chief if only for the fact fans will lose it. But if they decide to change characters (they don’t really have to.) then they should either use a character we all know and love e.g. buck. OR simply set it several years in the past or future, that way we won’t feel like our main man just got shunted out of the way for the newer model.

I would love to see chief die, but not in Halo 5. But in the next game or later to see how the story turns, making a much more emotional ending like Cortanas and seeing the franchise turn into darker setting. It would be an amazing setting to play in.
