Adjectives I would use to describe my experience with this beta so far. And I’m really trying to like it too - I spent $400+ on the Xbox for MCC and halo 5 and really want a game to justify my purchase (so far I consider it money wasted)
Clearly they are focusing on lexcessive visuals and making the game feel awesome artificially via ridiculous and unnecessary medals. However to me this come off as very cheesy and arcade-y.
-We don’t need pats on the back for every little thing.
-We don’t want out Spartans acting like frat bros
-the automated call outs, compliments, and announced power weapon times; could you make the hand holding any more obvious?
-sprint and thruster create huge margins for positioning errors both offensively and defensively
-the extreme horizontal movements result in very “flattened” and large map design. Good bye vertical gameplay. I found the 2 maps very underwhelming. Maybe I’m stuck in the past but I much preferred simpler, smaller designs. Pit, citadel, sanctuary, and normal midship were the epitome of 4v4 halo maps
-the HUD is painfully “tacticool” especially when scoped in to the point that it feels like it was designed for a 12 year old because who else would actually find all of that cool?
-the ADS, while functionality wise is the same as a scope in, is just trying way too hard to sell out to cod kids and I really dislike the look of it as well as it’s motive for being implemented
My problems with the game just of the top of my head. At this point it’s way too late to change any major design so I probably won’t be buying unless I magically do a180 in the next few weeks. PLEASE JUST FIX MCCS MATCHMAKING SO I’LL HAVE A GAME FOR A FEW YEARS

I did the same thing, and eventually sold my Xbone on Craigslist. Total waste of time and money.
You keep using words like “we” as if you speak for the community. You don’t. Ansno offense but if you spent hundreds of dollars just to play one game, then you really need to reconsider your purchase priorities.
Its stupid to buy a console for one game franchise. You should be buying it for all the other awesome exclusives too.
First point: Agree
Second: Agree
Third: Agree on Sprint, Disagree on Thruster. Its good once you learn not to over-use it especially in certain situations.
Fourth: Agree
Fifth: Kind of agree, but also disagree largely. We’ve only played two maps so we can’t comment on the whole games verticality just yet. I find both maps to be pretty good, but YMMV.
Sixth: Disagree. Hud is not a big deal, its mostly just cosmetic but it doesn’t ruin the game.
Seventh: Disagree. I like the ADS. Avoiding using them isn’t a huge deal with most guns and its better to avoid them with guns like the Magnum because of flinch (which should be removed along with sprint).

While I disagree with your overall position I must agree with a few things you said.
For one, I agree with doing away with " most " of the dialogue between the Spartans. The exception being the call outs of enemies locations. This for me is useful when, and only when, I’m playing by myself.
I don’t mind the clamber feature and the way Sprint has been implemented here but I agree, I miss simple maps like the pit.
I also agree with the word you used to describe the HUD, " tacticool ". The holagramy sights are not necessary. I also would lump the digital sounds when shooting into the tacticool description. There sounds and visuals that pull the game from its roots. Minor details for me in the end because I do still enjoy the " competitive " back step they took from Halo 4.

I actually think H2A has better weapon sounds than H5. After hearing the crack of H2A’s sniper the H5 sound definitely pales in comparison.
its not the point of the thread but yes i bought an xbox 1 for essentially just for MCC but also on the hope that gears of war 4 or halo 5 would be any good. i find most other xbox games awful.
since 2010, ive pretty much exclusively played only halo reach and halo 3 on the 360 and even up until MCC i was still very happy just playing halo 3. since halo 3 was getting 60 FPS, 1080p, better net code treatment as well as halo 1 and 2 then i would easily pay the price of an xbox 1 for it and just be happy with that. assuming they can fix MM then i would consider the purchase well spent but theyve yet to do that

I only used the word “we” for topics that seem to be pretty unanimously (or at least by the large majority) agreed upon. I havent heard a single person actually supporting the excessive amount of announcer praise. I havent seen anyone asking for more and more pointless medals. The chest pounding and high fiving is mocked by essentially everyone. “we” in this case is justified

thruster is a huge get-out-of-jail-free button
knowing when to not overextend in halo 3 was a crucial skill and required a lot of situational awareness, intuition, and experience. In halo 5 you dont need that awareness anymore. you arent punished for making the istake of pushing too far out. You can essentially do what you want and if you realize you did make a mistake hit the get-out-of-jail-free button and hide back into safety. no awareness or intution required. just rely on bad gameplay mechanics to compensate for your bad judgement.
I only bought the Xbox, 360 and the One for Halo only. Granted, I have played a few other games on them, but 99% of the time, a Halo disc was in the drive.

***sorry shouldve just made this one big post.
with so much emphasis on horizontal speed i cant imagine maps developed that arent going to feel flattened out. it probably would even play well. but we will see.
true it doesnt actually affect gameplay, but it just gives it a very cheesy, arcade-ish feeling. its pointlessly over the top and it seems its only been implemented so halo 5 will look cool during microsoft’s 30 second commercials.
again, it doesnt have a major affect on gameplay its just that aesthetically its unpleasing and makes the game feel like a war simulator instead of an arena shooter. it definitely took away from my enjoyment of the game.
sprint cannot be removed at this point. at least with the flattened 2 maps available its plain to see that they have been designed around sprint. removing sprint renders these maps essentially useless as they would be way too big
Make halo 3 have a real 1-50 matching only people close to your rank, parties matching only parties, updated maps, ability to back out with parties, constant 4v4s, and i could play MCC for the lifespan of the xbox 1.

Same
(old) halo is really the only video game that interests me
I agree with mostly everything you stated. They are making it to confusing and just need the basic competitive Halo with the amped up graphics, new weapons, etc.

I’m right there with you. All I hope for is the MCC matchmaking truly gets fixed with ranked playlist, and a Doubles playlist added so I have something to play that I enjoy the next few years. Right now, Halo 5 is a Red Box for the campaign, and then back to MCC matchmaking.
