Cheating Will Be Rampant

The developers are touting account bans to combat cheating…in a free game!? If cheater gets banned they can make an infinite number of burner emails and accounts. IP Bans should be possible for repeat offenders but I doubt it will happen. There needs to be an option to disable crossplay because the loyal fans of this franchise, that mostly play on console, will suffer at the hands of the cheating community on PC. I don’t think enough people are pushing for this and we will be left to the wolves much like on CoD Warzone. The only reason to include mandatory crossplay is to keep matchmaking times down for the big time streamers. On a similar note, the developers have only confirmed input restrictions for ranked playlists. This will not make up for the disadvantage someone will be facing playing on a base model Xbox one vs a computer that costs a few thousand dollars. The only excuse for not letting us disable crossplay in any game is greed, pure and simple. Generally, the bigger population the better for the longevity of a game but the player base should suffer from hackers because of it. Hopefully 343 and Microsoft will come to their senses and protect the people that have been playing this franchise for two decades.

I hope that crossplay can be toggled off, but we get cheaters in every game and I hope MS are on the ball with making it difficult for them.

The thing is with console games people can exploit loopholes or bugs but those can be patched and are few and far between. When you introduce an open system like PC the aimbots, wall hacks, etc are introduced into the ecosystem of the game. On Xbox you simply don’t see stuff like this.

I wonder if the person’s PC or Console could be essentially tagged or bugged, so even if that person makes another account they’re still banned. Idk just thinking out loud

They should do IP bans. It’s not like they are going to make money off of cheaters on their smurf accounts. They are not going to buy skins on their cheating accounts. Not IP banning cheaters will only make players invested in halo stop playing. I hope anti cheat is good, because the way 343 handles MCC is ridiculous. They won’t boot afk players boosting their xp, but if you quit you get a ten minute ban. Cheaters don’t get banned ever.

Hardware bans would definitely be welcome. I’m not sure if they require running a resource hogging anti-cheat like Vaorant, which 343 says they don’t want to do. Apparently they believe the slipspace engine is unique enough to make cheating hard. I say give it a few weeks and people will have it cracked.

I know 343 isn’t shy when it comes to IP or hardware banning repeat cheaters, and we know they’re already working on their anti-cheat software/detection. Really hope it’s effective.

Makes me not want to play Halo anymore, at least multiplayer or anything social based. Hope this isn’t the case, but I’m good with my time spent since H2.

It can’t be as bad as Warzone’s anti-cheat (or lack of anti-cheat).

Hardware bans would be welcome. 343 has already stated there is no active anti-cheat software or detection. They believe the slipspace engine will be hard to crack but that’s only initial protection. They’re relying on player reports to ban cheaters’ accounts. As you can imagine, this is a bit worrisome on a free game.

343i have discussed cheating in their Inside Infinite blog about PC. By the sounds of it they’re taking cheating very seriously.

I could easily see them banning IP & MAC addresses for repeat offenders.

I don’t think they’ve acknowledged that there’s cheating-mods on console.
Just a heads up to anyone, do not post specifics or links to videos showing evidence of this, it looks like your post will be deleted-locked, and you’ll get a temp or permaban from the forums.
That being said there’s a plethora of evidence of how easy and prolific cheating is on pc and console right now on mcc
Its frustrating to see streamers using them.
Its angering seeing discussions elsewhere on how to use them in a way that’s not obvious.
Take an already good player, add slight autoaim, it makes them appear pro.
Hopefully 343 can do something about this in infinite.
But I doubt it.
Hopefully infinite has such a huge player base it gets diluted.
But why they don’t crack down on manufacturers of these is beyond my understanding.

I hope 343 really find a good way to get rid of cheaters.

hardware spoofing is a thing, most things wont stop a determined hacker

Ridiculous, once again i343 miss the best way to deal with cheaters, don’t ban them, match them against each other, and don’t mention it to them.

Other than that I do think repeat offenders will see other ways of bans, like IP or Hardware bans.

If not, there should be a mandatory tutorial to go through for each account.
How many would have the patience to create a new account, and then play the tutorial, again and again and again? Even if e-mail and account creation could be automated, a tutorial isn’t the funniest thing to go through several times.

Yeah I was thinking the same, 343 have really payed special attention to a potential cheating crisis and are probably collaborating with MS to apply a mega anti-cheat system. I have faith.

Having the backing of a giant software company like Microsoft is a huge advantage for the game. If 343i needed help enhancing the anti cheat software they definitely have the industry connections to do so.

Yes but the big difference this time is the multiplayer is free while before the cheaters would have to rebuy the game on PC to get back into playing vs online while with F2P games they can have as many dummy accounts as they want and that’s what concerns me.

They realy need to adresse other ways of banning cheaters than the account ban. Opening MCC to Steam shows how bad the bansystem works atm, there are cheaters everywhere on ladder.

Because you wouldn’t have to often. Even games with most strict anti-cheat can still takes weeks or even months to ban you.
