I’d like to know if there is a solution for my problem :
I mostly play Halo5 with my best friend. I chat with him when we play using the xbox live voice chat.
Its working very well but there is some delay, that is bad when you want to say “oh he’s on your back” : too late my mate is already dead
We have both very good ping and speed (900mbps / 4ms ping speedtest) and router firewall is off.
Is there another solution than xbox live private voice chat to talk during games and get rid of this lag?
Can’t think of one for ya. Xbl party chat shouldn’t delay like that. Check both of your NAT settings. Have you tried pinging your friend’s public IP (if router responds to WAN pings)?
Try using an app on a phone such as discord. If you are around the same area you can set the server there and do things like that. It’s normally about 20-30 ms delay but it’s pretty fast compared to XBL party chat
I’ll check the NAT settings when i’ll be back from Christmas holidays. I should ping from PC, right?.
I’d prefer using xbl chat than an app because it can mix the game sound & chat. What setup is used in competition? true xbl?
It’s even more frustrating because we live 400meters away

I can communicate and play with multiple people a few thousand miles away with negligible delay on the chat.
Do you know where the nearest XBL server is to you? Because server location effects delay, and ping. Open NAT may help but the connection and transmission time is what you are looking at.
