Changing your attitude/Blindly liking

Today I would like to talk about this subject. Changing your attitude (or if you prefer
blindly liking) about a game.

Now we all know that alot of the community thinks Halo Reach is a piece of crap mixed with
poop. And they may be right. Some of you may also know that I like Halo Reach.

I remember when Halo Reach first came out, everyone was complaining on B.net. And I was
on there most of the time. All this talk about Armor Lock and Halo Reach not being a good
halo really got me thinking. And I started to believe Halo Reach sucked and I went back
to 3.

But I really didn’t want to hate halo reach, I really didn’t. But it was supposed to be
bad, and i could see why it was bad. But I was already so bored with Halo 3 and I wanted
to prove to these people that Halo Reach could be good.

So I got on there playing wanting to like it and i did. I love that game. Now don’t
get me wrong, I still like all the older Halos, but now I can consider Halo Reach a real
Halo game.

So this is what im trying to say: It’s all in the mind. If you want to hate it, you hate it. If you want to like it, you like it.

I even enjoy people using Armor Lock on me! I like trying to find news strategies to
kill these noobs.

Maybe I am blind, since i forced myself to like it. But I didn’t want to be a hater,
haters only see the bad in stuff, and I only see what is good in Halo Reach and I will
only try to see good in Halo 4.

And maybe since i’m blinded by goodness, my opinion on these forums don’t matter as
much. But that is why I like halo reach, i try to see the good over the bad. And it
works, it works really well.

It can’t be fun hating a game, I know it isn’t fun, I tried it.

So if you ever want to stop being a hater, just try to switch your attitude. Maybe
you’ll be blind, but you’ll be happy.

I’m sure alot of you will come up with alot of negativity to what im saying. But try
to understand. And maybe even try it! Get on halo reach and force yourself to like it.
It may take awhile or it may not work. But it’s worth a try as long as you want it
to work.

>Please tell me what you think

I still think that if we go into the options and play around a bit we can find a well balance gametype that even people who hate Reach can appreciate. If they can just take the time to try and view it as something new rather then to force it into something old they might find out that they can enjoy it as well.

Even people I’ve talked to who have said they prefer Halo 3 can easily say that Reach is just played differently and that you need to view it like that.

Aye, but i don’t think any amount of changing the game into a new gametype will make
people like it. There’s been multiple playlist like that, classic playlist, TU, MLG
etc. And people still don’t like it!

Because they keep trying to make a Halo3 gametype. They’re not looking into making an excellent Reach gametype.

I think normal Vanilla is the perfect Reach gametype. It’s what Reach is.

Well, it was the opposite for me. I wanted to like Reach. I expected to like it. I even thought I liked it. But the more I played it the more I realized that I was only kidding myself. The game just isn’t good.

This is very true. Most of what we have is a mentality. Our mentality dictates to us that, if it does not resemble past games, then it is bad. This is not the case. Had the changes been made better, reach would have been better, but it isnt necessarily bad.

The more you hate it, the worse you will play. Its negative energy. The more negative you are with it, the more negative it is for you. Negative breeds negative. So we have to enjoy it. It might not give that rush of nostalgia that halo 2 gave us, but it is still fun. It is still a halo game, and it can still be played as such.

It is still increasingly fun to play.

Sometimes it gets on your nerves, others it can be a blast. It is simply in the mindset. That is why you find people who love it and people who hate it. I for one am indifferent on it. There are things i like and dont like about it.

But i see all these “Noob items” such as armor lock and jetpakc as a challenge. I see the “Noob strategies” as a challenge. I literally have no problem with these items anymore, because it is all about how you deal with them. Raging about them on the forums doesnt help, so learn how they work and then use that against them.

Just some thoughts, but i know a lot of thses are true.

MLG tried to make an excellent Reach gametype. They had sprint as a starting ability, bloom and AA’s on the map.

Only recently do their settings emulate Halo 1/2/3 gameplay, and guess what? It was the most popular setting and may have saved Reach from getting cut from MLG.

I played the recent MLG settings breifly.

I got bored. Simply speaking i got bored. I wanted to play a new game, and that isnt what MLG gave me.

So is topped playing and went back to zero bloom slayer. You see, with the same old formula, there isnt any point in playing. I dont want to play the old games anymore, heck i played halo 2 for six years. I want to play a completely new game, filled with new ideas and thoughts.

The MLG playlist was a let down in that regard.

So then why don’t you pick up a new game that isn’t Halo. There are plenty of shooters out there.

If you got bored of Halo I think it is time for you to move on. Why do you even want to keep playing?

I played the original trilogy but skipped over ODST and Reach (for various reasons)

so far I am liking what I see in Halo 4

and quite honestly, I am sick and tired of all the BS that surrounds multiplatform titles spewed out by EA (especially if they once were pc exclusive) and of watching amazing franchises being forced to release new titles in barely 2 years to meet quarterly figures. This franchise, this situation, this is the perfect recipe for a great GREAT game. people should realize that and start to communicate with the developers eloquently and thoughtfully…they will listen because this is Halo, this is MS’s baby, and they cannot afford for it to fail

I never said i was bored of halo. I said i was bored of MLG’s halo. I am bored of the same thing over and over agian. I dont want to play halo 2 the whole time.

Dont get me wrong, Halo 2 was amazing, it really was, but the same game over and over again is boring.

I like reach, thats why i still play it. I love halo, no other game actually compares to it. But honestly, I dont want to continue to play the same game.

I want something completely different, but still gives me the rush of nostalgia. I want a game based of the original trilogy, but with completely new features added to it.

All i am saying is the same thing gets boring.

Aye, Halo Reach is halo, but they just mixed the ingredients a little.

Forcing yourself to like something doesn’t really work (for most people). I hated Reach. Completely and utterly. After about a year I went back and played through it again and it grew on me a little. I still think it’s the worst game in the series but there are things I like (or at least hate less). Sometimes time helps. When I first played Reach I had so much built up anticipation. When I went back to it that was gone.

No offense, silent, but I don’t really understand your logic.

You love Halo, yet you don’t want to keep playing the same Halo? You want something “completely different” yet still gives you that rush of nostalgia? I don’t get that.

I can understand wanting new weapons and new maps, as they keep the game fresh without changing the identity of Halo, but the things Reach did to the Halo formula turned it into a whole new game. It had elements of Halo, yet it was significantly different on a fundamental level. It didn’t keep Halo fresh, it turned it into something that wasn’t Halo.

It was still Halo, it still had that arena style gameplay, you still had the spratans
with shielding. It was a different kind of Halo. And that’s how they wanted it.

> It was still Halo, it still had that arena style gameplay, you still had the spratans with shielding. It was a different kind of Halo. And that’s how they wanted it.

The arena nature of the gameplay was nearly non-existant with the inclusion of classes. On a surface level, the game looked like Halo, but on a deeper level it had really no other gameplay connection except power weapons as pick ups. Any other core part of Halo gameplay was pretty much non-existent in vanilla Reach.

In other words, the game went too far. You see, the idea of evolving an old game isn’t to drastically change the gameplay, it’s to tweak it a little bit over time to make it near perfection, while at the same time investing on new, non-gameplay features, maybe even gameplay features that affect the game positively. But Reach changed the gameplay and disregarded everything that could’ve been done, essentially adding gameplay that didn’t really improve the game and even damaged it.

The only thing i think really took reach away from halo is the AAs. Those were pretty big.
If Halo Reach didn’t have any AAs, i would think it would be pretty classic. Of course
there still is alot of things different. But I would think that it would be pretty ok.

If they can just take the time to try and view it as something new rather then to force it into something old they might find out that they can enjoy it as well.

What i mean by that is, I love halo, but the same thing over and over again gets boring. I love halo 2, and can pracitcally play the campiagn blindfolded with one hadn behind my back now, but honestly i got bored of it.

I want a halo game, based off the first halos, but with new additions. I want a game that feels like halo (something that reach didnt give me) but isnt just a reskin. I want it to fell new. I want new strategies and ideas to use. MLG just made their playlist exactly like halo 2/3, that is why i dont enjoy it as much as i could.

That is true. It didnt feel like halo. The changes were implemented os badly they were unbalanced and uweildy. Halo reach was simply a Sci FI shooter with the name halo in it. While it can still be fun to play, doesnt exactly feel like halo.

I still enjoy it, just not as much as i could have. It is still fun to play, and not as bad as people make it out to be.

But you are right, reach didnt feel like halo, but at least it wasnt simply a re skin.

Just my opinion though.
