Maybe it’s just me, but it seems the voting system should be made a little more fair than what it seems right now. Or at least a little more interesting in some ways.
For example, why does a tie vote automatically default to the selection above? If Slayer and CTF both get voted on, but Slayer is above CTF, it shouldn’t automatically choose Slayer every time.
Why not just make it randomly chosen between the tied votes instead, since it was split evenly. It’s only fair for both to have a 50/50 chance of being picked if they tie right?
Also, why not make more of the vote selections randomized? What’s the point of having 4 different choices to choose from when I go into say, BTB if the first choice is always BTB Slayer and the second choice happens to always be BTB Heavies.
We have None of the Above for a reason, if the players don’t like what has come up, just vote that and mix everything up again.
But hitting the option right now just brings up the same gametypes, only different maps, so what’s the point?
And lastly, not a really huge thing, but a delay between placing votes might be a nice idea. At least to stop the guys who like to cycle through all of the votes randomly to mess with others.
Votes should he blind. You wouldn’t be able to see the lag between votes and would not have to deal with the one -Yoink- who always votes last second to get a laugh.

I was thinking of adding that into the ideas after playing a bit of Arena.
Would also probably help with stopping the whole “follow the herd” mentality that some players seem to have, where they simply just see and vote for whatever option has the most votes currently instead of what they want to play.
If players can’t see what others are voting for, they won’t change their mind as often.

That’s a very good idea you got there Ace.Would be similiar to the Arena voting, though.

Don’t quote me on this, but I think it’s to ensure that each gametype makes an equal appearance in playlists with only two or three gametypes.
There used to be occasions where players would have spectacularly bad luck and get the same gametype for five out of six (when a no-vote passes) options. Many a party was frustrated by a vote that offered three SWAT Magnums and one None Of The Above, and many a party was further frustrated when that NOTA vote led to two SWAT Magnums and one SWAT on a bad map. (In fact, I think this sort of thing still happens in some lists. I’ll admit I haven’t been around MM in a while.)

That’s fair for playlists like Infection, Swat, Snipers, or even currently Invasion where you can fit each of the few different gametypes in a spot.
But for playlists with much more varied gametypes, I don’t think there should really be any set spots for a specific gametype to always show up at besides the usual different weightings they receive, especially with the current vote rules where top option is always given priority in tiebreakers.
Yeah, there will be times where you particularly may not get anything you want, but there may be other players who will, and overall allow more variety of things to show up over time.
Maybe we just need a true Grab Bag playlist to return for something like that to happen.

Do you realize that if all of the voting options are random then the first one being selected in a tie is still a random option… don’t understand your second point, seeing what other people votes is small, at least noobs can see what they should vote for
> Do you realize that if all of the voting options are random then the first one being selected in a tie is still a random option… don’t understand your second point, seeing what other people votes is small, at least noobs can see what they should vote for
It’s still a tiebreaker, no matter if they’re randomly chosen or what spot they’re in. This isn’t the old veto system anymore, we have a lot more choices to choose from, and only so many players.
If an even amount of people vote on multiple options, the vote option that is higher up shouldn’t always win, it’s only fair that if a tie happens, then there is an equal chance of awarding the winner to either one, since an equal amount of players want to play either of the gametypes.
Makes sense right? Fair is fair.
Also what you do mean second point? Making the votes blind? What’s wrong with that?
It shouldn’t be based around what they SHOULD vote for based on what others are voting, it should be what they WANT to play.
If they can’t see what option currently has the most votes, then they will vote for what they like instead of for example, trying to counter-pick the highest option of what others decided to choose.
When it’s blind or hidden, the voting is more true in a sense, there’s a lot less bias. Like a blindfolded taste test sort of…You’ll only know the results afterwards.
I’ll try to explain this 2 you… the voting options are already in random order, if the 1st option is chosen in a tie the first option is still a random choice because the options are in random order anyway for example: there is an equal chance that elite slayer will be on the top as there is dmrs being on top in the event of a tie, in arena the voting is blind it doesn’t make much of a difference anyway people will be voting for what they want to play if one wins then thats what a majority of the votes went to
