I’ve been reading the forums and it seems most fans have disliked the change of art in H4. Even after all the feedback it got worse with H5. I to dislike how the art is nothing like the original trilogy.
My question is, does anyone here like it and why? Is there feedback somewhere I am missing since they (imo) made it even worse from 4 to 5?
I like the new art style. Way I see it, the new art style takes some more realistic decisions when it comes to design. Now, not all of them are necessarily better (glares at D79), but, there are plenty of things that make more sense. I still really like the original art style, and would love to see more of it, provided it’s done in the modernized way that H2A and HW2 have handled it.

I agree some things make sense, but they really got agressive with “modernization” and it has a Japanese cartoony feel. My favorite is H2A actually.

I’m curious, what makes you say that it has a “Japanese cartoony feel”? I’ve seen this criticism of 343’s art style frequently, but I’ve never really understood it.

I’ve actually thought about this to try and figure it out. I think it’s more metallic bright colors and smooth edges compared to the earth tone sharp edges. It’s what made the covenant differ from the UNSC. The UNSC looks more like the covenant now and that bothers me.

While I disagree that current UNSC stuff looks more like Covenant tech than before, some of the redesigns are definitely rather… questionable. Like, what is it with all of the boring, repetitive human architecture found in Halo 5? It just isn’t interesting to look at.

I think it wasn’t human architecture but ancient elites? Not sure but I’ve felt the same for awhile. While playing ODST wandering around new mombasa was stuck in a repetitive hell.

That’s the thing about forums. You’re more likely to hear complaints about any given thing, because the people who are ok with it don’t have a reason to say anything about it.

I don’t mind it, but I wish they would stop designing such ugly helmets

Ugh… Those helmets though… I am certain there is a group of people giggling as they release some of this ugly gems.

That complaint applies to the first 3 Halos as well. Halo was always anime inspired.
