Changing Master Chiefs armor?

So what is the explanation in the Halo canon for how Master Chief gets an armor change?

Im not sure I fully understand…

Nanobots and artistic uniqueness

> Nanobots and artistic uniqueness

No, it was changed because they wanted to change it. You’re supposed to take it as his armor has always looked this way.

Which is terrible btw. Changing things just to change them…

I personally don’t like it as well as I should, I think 343’s artistic direction just plain sucks compared to Bungies; Especially Halo 1, 2 and 3.

Actually nanobots are part of it, also artistic uniqueness is part of it. I was right.

I just don’t think it makes any sense.

Why change something that nobody was complaining about in the first place?
Are we really supposed to just accept that his armor just magically changed?

Weird.

Don’t know where the hell you got that from, it’s been hinted through multiple sources that Cortana had some work done.

Besides the changes in art direction and graphics that allow for more detail on character models such as the Chief, the official explanation is that while in Cryo, Cortana altered the Mark VI armor while he was sleeping by using nanobot tech to change the look and HUD software.

So basically, it’s just an upgraded Mark VI armor.

There is no space magic here, it’s been explained before. The Mark VI armor changed between Halo 2 and Halo 3, yet no on -Yoinked!- about that.

Nanobots, I think the Dawn uses the same material in it’s plates that the chief has for his plates, 1 bored Cortana+A whole ship of supplies and a sleeping chief=some work to be had.

I’ve answered you twice dude. Also Cortana has probably changed some things.

 1. “Slop is military slang for Nanoreagent Hydrocarbots - a suspension of nanomachines that renders nearly all carbon heavy matter into usable fuel for the UNSC’s ubiquitous internal combustion powerplants.”

This confirms UNSC possess Nanotechnology and had it around the time the Chief’s armor was made.

 1. In Campaign, players take the role of the Master Chief, the living legend of the Covenant War, a SPARTAN-II super-soldier wearing heavily modified GEN1 Mjolnir armor.

This confirms his Armor has been modified.

 1. [I noticed that the Mark VI armor for Multiplayer is not the same armor that the Chief dons in Halo 4. What type of armor is the Chief wearing then? -One One Seven

Very fancy, very custom, very unique “Cortana special” armor.](http://blogs.halo.xbox.com/Headlines/post/2012/09/05/The-Halo-Bulletin-9512.aspx)

This confirms the armor is customized by Cortana

 1. “Nanobots making repairs to Chief’s armor.”

This confirms Chief’s armor interacts with Nanobots

Now put all of this together and you have your answer: Nanobots were used by Cortana to modify the Chief’s armor while he slept in Cryo for 4 years.

Let’s not forget that the old Mark VI armor is in the game as well which means it exists side by side the Chief’s Mark VI which confirms that it’s not entirely artistic interpretation. The old Mark VI still exists because that’s what his looked like before Cortana changed it.

SPARTAN armor is equipped with nanobot technology. Cortana spent their four years aboard the Dawn using it to upgrade John’s firmware, since it was–for all intents and purposes–rather outdated. That’s the canon explanation, anyway. Mostly it’s just because they wanted to update his overall look for the new trilogy.

I’m probably gonna get shot for this, but I actually like the upgraded version a lot more than his old suit… Speaking as an artist and machine enthusiast, I think 343i has a fantastic grasp of design and how to apply their designs practically. I understand that people like John’s old look and want it to stay the same, but personally, looking back on it, I just don’t see how the old Mark VI armor was in any way believable. But that’s just my opinion, of course.

EDIT: See post above me for better explanation.

Lets just say I know for a fact what I say is true.

I can provide proof, although I’d much rather not.

Trust me. Stop blindly following loose excuses for why his armor and the FuD were changed so dramatically. They were changed simply for the sake of changing them.

Can you face palm repeatedly? Do it for me.

He has the damage from his re-entry in Halo 3 still.

Can forge huge chunks of armour yet can’t repair a couple of scratches? Please.

Oh I’m sorry, was the tiny little robots going to do that last and ran out of time? ¬_¬

don’t argue with ignorance Sigge J87, it will drag you down to its level and beat you with experience.

when upgrading his armour, what order would you do things? from the sounds of it, you would; repair cosmetic surface damage, repair damaged internal components, upgrade functionality of external structure?

when im expecting that im most likely going to need something working as well as or better than it did when i put it in storage when i eventually open the box… im not going to cry about some minor scratches.

I’ll be expecting formal apologies from most of you about 10 minutes after putting Halo 4 into your disc trays.
