Changing Gamertags

What are the Pros and Cons of changing your gamertag? And is Microsoft still recycling old gamertags?

Pros: I love my GT now.

Cons: No one on my friends list realized who I was for a while. But that may have been my mistake for not telling them before hand…

Pros:
-You get to change it to what you like (until you want to change it again)

Cons:
-It costs money
-Nobody knows who you are until you tell them (This can be considered a pro if you like to mess :D)

And yes, old gamertags are being recycled by Microsoft.

Bit of a novice question, but is there a place to find GT which have not been taken? Thinking of changing mine.

Okay, someone on an Xbox forum said they were no longer recycling them, but I haven’t found anything to support that.

Not sure how reliable it is but gamertag checker.

Nope, it’ll simply let you know if its taken or not when you try to change it.

Cheers Snicker.

Was either thinking

NobodysPorfect

TinkleMute (anagram of my name)

SealthandHafety

SublimeandLemon

Or something along those lines.

You can try and check for available tags on xbox.com. That’s usually what I do, and if it comes up with a profile, then it’s obviously taken. However, I believe things like Zune usernames are all a part of the same pool so it’s not always 100% guaranteed to be available if the gamertag search doesn’t return a profile as it may be in use for another Windows LIVE service.

Also, when I change my gamertag, I send a message to all friends to let them know. You can send one message to everyone at once by editing the message recipients and selecting everyone on your Friends List.

It is reliable.

They are.

Lol, this would be smart. I randomly checked if “snickerdoodle” was available and then changed my tag ASAP and then forgot about it. My poor friends…
