Changes to the Hard light shield.

I like the HLS. It’s a really cool AA and it was nice to finally see the call for a usable Jackal shield to be heard.

However it wasn’t perfect in the the eyes of some so I’d like to suggest that if the HLS comes back in Halo 5 that it have more similarities to the Jackal shield.

First off I’d like a small hole in the shield that can be shot through or maybe a weak spot in the form of a little red colored circle somewhere on the shield that if shot would drain the AAs battery at a much faster rate or perhaps the entire battery could be drained within just one shot of the red circle.

I’d also like explosive weapons to be able to blow right through the shield instead of just bouncing off.

Another thing I’d like is if the shield is hit by an EMP the battery will be drained instantly.

Now based on what I’ve said I’ve nerfed the heck out of the shield so to make sure it doesn’t become useless I’d also like the battery to last longer when not being shot at and for players to be able pull up the shield much more quickly.

That’s my opinion on how it could work anyway. Anyone got any better ideas that don’t involve throwing it in the same flaming pit that Armor lock found it’s demise in?

I always wanted a jackle sheild, so im in complete support of your ideas

Yah there needs to be a bit more to HLS. It’s better than AL because of the “from behind” work around but especially at range (where flanking takes a lot more effort) it can still unilaterally affect combat. Now OP I like some of what you proposed but I think it goes a bit too far (particularly the “weak spot” idea. That’s just conceding to the DMR). But I think with a weakness to EMP effects and a knock-back effect (not full penetration, again that’s going to far) in the line of Skyrim’s shield blocking system from explosive weapons and melee attacks you could have a better AA.

I’d also decrease the time you could have the shield up for, but also decrease activation time to make it more of a skillful block and less of a shell to hide under.

I like the idea, but the hard light shield is fine as it is. Just close the bottom part and it be perfect.

Especially in close combat, when someone is trying to shield themselves, have you ever thought about jumping thus shooting them in the head?

I like the idea of a smaller shield, especially if it leads to better animation. Chief holding a riot shield isn’t as cool looking as chief putting his back behind it, or minimizing his profile. It also makes it a bit more vulnerable, which is something I think all AA’s need.

I also like the EMP effect. The plasma pistol needs to match power to charge time, anyway. It will be a much more versatile, skilled, and balanced weapon that way, and I think the same applies here to the hardlight shield.

Personally, I think a good improvement to the Hardlight shield would be making it instantly collapse when it takes damage. That way it won’t slow down gameplay like how it currently does.

The Hardlight Shield should be used in surviving that rocket blast, not for making your opponent have to wait for you to come out of it before continuing the dance.

I absolutely agree and shooting at your targets feet should all ways be the preferred method as well as jumping and shooting your target from above but the fact is that Jackal shields work like this so it’s ridiculous that the HLS doesn’t.

Shooting directly at the shield should be an option.

You didnt put the end part for the green text, plus you’ve out it for it to cover the quoted text as well.

I know how to do it, the post just glitched.

I take little issue with the Hardlight when I’m up against it. The only time it ever really frustrated me was when a team had us on a setup lockdown on Complex, and we couldn’t break out because as soon as we started targeting one with DMR fire, he’d pop up his shield until he could move into cover, then all his teammates would catch us with our pants down focusing on an effectively invincible enemy.

That happened ONE GAME.

However, having used the Hardlight between my friend and I a few times, we’ve come to realize that most people either have no idea how to use it like we do (shenanigans ensue), or they have no idea how to deal with it like we do (fairly easily).

We’ve used Hard Lights to survive things that would easily kill us without them. But whenever they’re used on me… I just kind of kill him anyway.

Could be a skill gap thing… Where if you’re good enough at dealing with them, Hardlights become effectively inconsequential…
