Changes FFA needs

Changing FFA to 6 players didn’t really help as much as I thought it would. The problem with FFA wasn’t there were too many players, it was that the maps and the game itself weren’t designed in a way FFA can work. Maps like Empire and Overgrowth, where you’ll be running around corners constantly are just cancer because people can just have their assault rifle out and spartan charge anyone they see around a corner. Maps like these need to be removed from the FFA rotation.

Maps that work really well with FFA are maps like Plaza. Plaza is made of a lot of isolated areas connected by very vulnerable places like bottom mid and bridge. Maps like these are all about 1 on 1 fights instead of mindlessly spartan charging everyone. There aren’t many of these maps though. Eden and Truth work somewhat well with FFA, but that’s just because they are two of the larger maps so 1v1s are more common.

Empire, Fathom, The Rig, and Overgrowth all work terribly with FFA. Empire and Fathom are just too small and full of spawn killing. The Rig and Overgrowth and just run around corner ans spartan charge for kills. These maps really need to be removed from the rotation.

Another problem that I’ve seen is the BR. AR and Magnum starts works fine for 4v4 and 2v2, but in FFA there just aren’t enough BRs on the map to make it fair. If two people of equal skill have a 1v1, the person with the BR will win the majority of the time. It’s just easier to use and has a faster kill time. That’s why FFA should be BR starts.

Other than that 343 is taking FFA in the right direction by making it 6 players. But that wasn’t the only problem. I really hope 343 sees this and at least tests these changes. I really want to play FFA but it’s so hard to do it when most of the maps play terribly with it.

I would prefer BR starts too in all honesty. I just HATE the AR and in FFA it’s all anybody uses because of how up your -Yoink- everyone is.

Let me adapt to bad spawns and unfair weapon placement. There are only 2 BRs on most maps. That isn’t good enough for FFA

I honestly think 6 player made FFA even worse. I preferred the 8 player version. And the rig is the best FFA map in my opinion. If you can’t beat the Spartan charge, go back to the drawing board on your play style, you can hear a person sprinting in this game pretty loud and clear. Your post was well thought out, so don’t get me wrong I appreciate this subject being brought up.

6 player FFA on colliseum was the worst. It involved 6 people crouching, waiting for shots, and then popping out. Without 8 people on the map, having the sniper is less of a priority. I miss sniping with 7 possible kills available on the map.

Overgrowth is an alrighhhht map, but FFA in it is really bad.

Plaza, Eden, and truth all play well in FFA with 6.

Anyway, I think FFA is worse with 6. BR starts won’t help anything. The sniper isn’t worth picking up (used to be the best part of FFA) cuz it will almost always get you killed. A vengeful player will have an easy time coming after you after re spawn with only 6 people

The problem with spartan charge is it does a ton of damage and has a lot of autoaim. It’s really hard to avoid it and even if you can get a melee off (which is really hard to do because of knockback), he’ll just ar you down which only takes a few hits to kill you.

The rig has really bad spawns. You can be walking through basement and someone will spawn carbine and start shooting you from behind. Also a lot of the sightlines can get annoying.

I feel like Coliseum is just bad for FFA in general. The whole rocket side of map is just suicide to go to so everyone sticks to the sniper side which just makes everything a -Yoink-.

I think BR starts would help. That or putting more BRs on the map. Having a BR is such an advantage and there are only 2 on the map. I also feel like it would speed up some of the battles and there would be less kill stealing.

I, personally would like to see top 2 players be awarded a win. It seems like FFA is a lot of luck. It seems a lot more difficult to find players in 6 man FFA. Even if 2nd wasn’t shown on the podium, it would still help with what seems to be for most people, a skewed win percentage.

It seems that FFA matches are determined by the spawns at the start of the match. If you play FFA on Empire and spawn closest to the OS you will likely get a good lead.
