One thing I noticed in the new Vidoc is the massive HUD change 343i has implemented. During the gameplay footage I noticed something very odd about the HUD; That you can see the inside of your helmet on the corners and edges of your screen.
This is NOT new to FPS games. Star Wars: Republic Commando was one of the first games I noticed this in. Since then, it’s been in quite a few. And it has never been in a Halo game (That I’ve noticed).
Along with seeing the inside of your helmet, there is a lot of useless data around the whole HUD that seems to be random information and junk that does not add anything to the game except make it cluttered.
I can see the point of them doing this though; To make the game feel more immersive/ put you “inside” the Master Chief… Yet I can’t help feel that it’s kind of in the way. Even if it’s not distracting to you, it serves no REAL purpose.
And I’ve never played Halo and said to myself, “This game is fun and all, but I could really use some random numbers and military jargon around the edges of my screen so I’m more molded into the game.” Or have I thought I would like to see the edges of the inside of the Mark VI…
EDIT: Also, there is some campain gameplay in the same video that shows the same HUD, just without the extra stuff (Regular Halo HUD style).
I actually find the Halo 4 HUD to be the best in the whole series. It’s very sleek and jet-fighter like which they were intentionally going for. I love the way you can see power-weapon icons now and how far away they are.
I don’t think it’s going to be a big deal or really noticeable at all. It has been there since the first gameplay footage they have shown so if you’re just now noticing it then it’s pretty clear you won’t notice it when you’re in the head of battle.
It was the details that made people prefer Halo 3’s HUD over Reach’s.
It’s the sense of immersion that makes the this new helmet that much better. The hud has changed in every Halo game, and so far, this one is my favorite for ever since games like Metroid Prime, I’ve always wanted to see Halo with a more ‘realistic’ touch of HUD movement and such

It does not serve any purpose. It’s like decals on a car. Looks nice to some,.but no real point. I do agree that it looks pretty fresh, but at LEAST put some real info on the screen. Take off the random B.S. numbers and stuff and put some distance, elevation or even some fake data! Heart rate, hydration level; stuff that has some kind of substance to it.

I believe there is a distance meter when you are scoping
